I am going to be a senior this year and I am applying to West Point(2014). I was wondering if anybody out there can tell me how I stack up.
Academics:
3 year GPA: 90- all honor's classes and unweighted-competetive and challenging school(private)
SAT: Math-540(w/o practice) Writing-620 Verbal-620
Top 20-25% of class
Extra-curricular Activities
National Honor Society
Homeroom mentor for freshman*
Speech and Debate
Service Club
Eucharistic Minister*
Graduate of Youth Leadership Program hosted by FBI-50 kids from country attended
Active in Parish and Community*
Athletics
Cross Country-Varsity
Indoor/Outdoor Track-Varsity
Baseball
Basketball
Wrestling

*All of these I was chosen because of my leadership capabilities
I know my math SAT score is quite low but I have been practicing over the summer and plan to take the SAT two more times. I figure I can get up to a 630.
With my W-620 CR-620 and possibly math-630, do i have a good shot of being admitted?
Would I be qualified for USMAPS?
Thank you in advance!!!!

db,

You seem like a competitive candidate for admission. Aim really high for those ACS and SAT scores, you'll need them. How's your CFA scores, you'll need those too. Try your best to raise your rank in class too.

I'm not sure on being qualified for USMAPS. From what I've asked usually you're more qualified for MAPS than USMA if you academics are low. You have to apply to USMA in order to be considered for MAPS, so I dont know what your chances are. Hope that helps.

db10: You should apply--nothing ventured, nothing gained. Your scores are on the low average side, based on the data posted at the USMA website for previous classes. That being said, much depends on where you live and what unique skill set you bring to the table. Additionally, if you are an "under-represented minority," you increase your chances as well.

USMAalltheway- I am pretty athletic so I do not think that the CFA should be a problem. I did a practice run and got mile:5:15 sit ups: 75 push-ups: 68 pull-ups: 10 did not do the shuttle run b-ball throw: 87 feet.
Would my academics be considered low to be given the option to attend MAPS??

Those are good stats in my eyes. But no one can tell you your chances. Just apply and do everything you can to get in. But you look good to me.

Whoa! DB, 68 pull-ups?! Wish I could do that. Um not sure about academics, let me know what a 90 GPA is, and I'll try to give you further info on it.

lol, the scores follow the colons. So it would be 68 push-ups, and 10 pull-ups. I wish I could do 68 pull-ups too.

take the SAT's and ACT's again and again this fall and winter. You can take them everytime they are offered.
Apply for a Nomination and contact your Regional commander who can direct you to your Miltary Academy Liason Officer (MALO) who will work with you.

i know 68 pull ups would be amazing.....a 90 gpa would be the equivelant of around a 3.5. that gpa is unweighted so if i pt for all honor's classes i would have a 4.1

Do you have AP's with those? Or are they all honors?

in my school there are no AP classes offered. If there were I would most certainly take them. We have three tracks, Honors, Academic I, and Academic II. Honors is the highest rank. So although we take the same classes, our work load is harder and more demanding. In honors we also take 4 years of a language instead of 3.
