With the first Army ROTC Scholarship Board meeting soon, I am very eager to hear some feedback on what kind of chances I have of winning the 4 year/ 3 year ad. scholarship. I am well aware of my low ACT score. I also did very well on my interview.

ACT 25
GPA 3.84 unweighted
Class Rank 3 out of 110
Class President
NHS VP
Expect 12 varsity letters
Varsity football- 4 years-team captain
Varsity Tennis- 4 years-team captain
Varsity Basketball-2 years
Varsity Swim-2 years
VP Physics Club
Boys State Delegate
Mock Trial Team- 2 years
*These are my highlights, not my entire resume. Would appreciate honest feedback.

Overall you look good. You testing score is very low. I recommend retaking it if you are willing to wait for the 2nd board. Otherwise best of luck.

If I remember correctly, last year, the first board only gave 4 year scholarships. Don't be discouraged if you don't get first round pick. 2nd board picks up a lot of 3 years and quite a few 4 years as well.

Good luck.

It is the whole person score, yes the ACT is low, but it is competitive, but there is no way of knowing how much that will change things. You ACT may have more to do with the school's you get into, what schools did you list? There are examples from last year that had lower ACT than you that received 4 year first board and there are kids with much higher ACT that recieved 3 year on the 2nd and 3rd, or not at all, it is not the only thing considered. Comparing stats will not help you, as tempting as that is. Just know you have a solid resume there and now you just get to wait!

FYI my daughter's highest sitting was a 25, 26 superscore, and she received a 3 year 3rd board. She only had 2 varsity letters and a 3.57 GPA, no class officer positions, no captain positions or girls state. She had a lot of volunteer and work positions and church leadership. Remember, we don't know how they score the survey and she did well on her interview. I just would not worry too much about your ACT, given that you are already done and your interview is done.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I 1000% agree with Dckc.

Everyone wants a chance me to soothe their angst, and old posters like me still remember that process typically will shy away from chancing anyone. The reality is nobody here sits on a board, and if they did they would not publicly acknowledge it. I say this because let's say everybody answers with a positive response and you walk away feeling great, but than a month later the boards here light up with recipients and you have yet to hear a word. This in turn creates a new round of angst regarding why you did not hear...i.e. asking when they submitted, what schools, etc.

I wish you the best, but my best advice is to be prepared not to hear anything until March/April. If you hear early than that is great, but if not than you will at least be able to move forward for your senior yr. with making plan B as a walk on ROTC cadet.

Good luck!

Is there a way to check to see how well a person does in their interview?

I swear I mean no offense, but why do you ask?

Now think of my response from this way. It is the Whole Candidate Score (WCS).

WCS includes more than just the interview.

Let's assume you can find the score. You, me and the man behind the tree does not know how many scholarships they will offer this year, nor the pool size for candidates.

I really am not trying to be rude, mean or unkind. I am trying to say, sit tight. If you have submitted the best package than that is all you can do.

There are just too many variables to place into the equation to even think that knowing what the score the PMS gave you can equate into a chance.

Sorry if that offended you. Just saying....if you have a 27 ACT and max Interview points, but a low PFA with only a 3.1 cgpa you may find yourself not getting a scholarship to your top choices. Whereas, the 29 ACT, middle of the road interview points, high PFA and a 3.7 cgpa gets a scholarship.
~ Hence the WCS comment and pool size.

In 4 yrs from now when you commission you will look back and laugh about how you stressed over this yr. It will seem foolish at that point. You will look back and realize that nobody in ROTC ever cared about if you were scholarship or not when it came to success within the unit.
~ If you need the scholarship to attend college, please search threads.
~~ You may think the military is a match, but when the rubber hits the road, you may find out that you love the school, which you can only afford via ROTC scholarship, but hate ROTC. Now what do you do?

I was awarded the 4 Year Scholarship for the first board. I am so excited for what the future will bring. Thank you to this forum for giving me feedback!

Congrats ArmyStrong11 - If you feel comfortable, what were some of the schools on your application/offer?

Have the all the scholarships been awarded for the first board or does it take time to give them all out?

Once portals are updated, (and they have been already), anyone reading "boarded" will be considered after the second board meets in January. It depends where you end up on the OML after the new applicants are boarded. Remember, they give out about 3 times the amount of scholarships on the 2nd and 3rd boards than on the first. Good luck to you.
