What does this email mean? Is it a LOE? USMA at West Point invites...

Your completely right. I was just coming from a perspective on what has helped me in the past. The times I have been corrected the more rash and stern the more I improved for the better. Some of the few times I had not been doing my best if someone would call me on my crap then I never made that mistake again. I appreciate being called out an held accountable and as a pretty A type person it seems like everyone should share the same motivation as I when in reality we are all different.

Not meaning to but in..... but, my son received the same email and yesterday got a letter in the mail stating just about the same thing. It was exciting to get mail from WestPoint but it was obvious to us that it was a mass email and letter. My son opened his portal on the first day and is excited to start this journey. I think I'm going to stick the letter on the fridge or some other prominent place, yes proud mama here no matter what happens.

Noped, nobody never made tipos or useded bad grammer; however, most of the senior posters here also have a limit on the amount of arrogance or sarcasm they accept in a young candidate's postings. It is especially true of those in the military that don't want that type of attitude amongst their ranks or alumni. Watch your tone, your posts aren't always as anonymous as you might think when an RC pieces together clues to ID you.

Wow. Lighten up, Francis.

Kbugs,
Did you ever express an intent to apply for SLE, fill out a WP questionnaire, or attend a WP information session?

If not, I would not put a single bit of personal & confidential information into whatever was sent to you until you first google WP admissions for their phone number and call them to see if this was something they sent you. Do not call any number posted in what was sent to you.

As for the advice of the above posters, humility does go a long way on these forums as many of these folks have "been there" and "done" more than many of us will ever get to do. Their advice and feedback is often the result of years of experience in the field, in business and if life in general.

Also, as the parent of a Dear Son(DS) that has gone through the process, I can tell you that one of the posters above is absolutely correct in that IF you get to go to any activity at WP or are fortunate enough to be appointed and accept, any attitude you bring should be quickly checked at the door....be competetive, be strong, be first in all you do, but don't give attitude or you will get to see a side of the military lifestyle that will break you down into little pieces. Don't give others on this forum, at WP or anywhere else the sense that you are above it all as that does not EARN respect nor show it.

IF what you got is truly from WP, congrats and follow up on it. You will truly enjoy the challenges SLE brings and if WP is in your heart, GO FOR IT.

Good Luck

I haven't received an email like that, so it may actually signify that your DS and the OP are very competitive candidates, but I doubt it. I have received letters in the mail from several Ivy league schools telling me that I have a good chance to gain admission and that I should apply. I received one from Harvard and I'm pretty sure I don't even meet Harvard's basic admission requirements lol... My guess is that WP and other schools blindly tell a bunch of people that they are competitive candidates to get more people to apply so that their admissions rates are lower which makes them look better.

I agree it's a mass mailing. However, I don't think it goes to just anyone. They do their research and send it to folks they think have potential to meet their requirements. After all, they have the information OP provided in his app so far.
