hello community,
just had a quick question. Ive been having nightmares about USMA and not getting in so, because of my insecurity, i wanted to ask this question. From my general profile, would i be "over-qualified" or "under-qualified" for USMAPS?

-Academics-
GPA- 3.17
AP US History
AP Government and Politics (next year)
AP Literature (next year)
AP Language
Pre-calculus (1 year ahead of normal curriculum)
1 summer college course (Japanese; next year)
Honors English
Honors Social Studies
SAT- 1870
Studied abroad in Australia for 1 semester (is this special?)

-Athletics-
Varsity Track
Varsity Swim
State qualified swimmer
CFA score:
75 pushups
12 pullups
86 situps
6:00 flat mile time
Karate black belt
-Leadership-
NJROTC platoon commander
Physical Fitness team commander
Attended Leadership Academy for NJROTC
Varsity Track team captain
Varsity swim team captain
(recently talked to the coach there and he stated that my swim times were great but i should drop a little more to be even more competitive)
-Civic Involvements/ Community Service-
Union Gospel Mission in Seattle
Habitat for Humanity- building homes for the low income
Athletes for Kids program
NJROTC community service
-roughly 160 hours
-Work Experience-
Red Rooster Restaurant (located in Canberra, Australia)
Worked approximately 8-10 hours a week
Worked for approximately 6 months
Comfort Inn Suite Hotel (located in Toppenish, WA)
Worked approximately 3 days a week (during the summer)

Because of my low academics, I am mainly banking on my swimming athleticism and extracurriculars to help me with the admissions process. Does my profile make me a good competitor for USMAPS or any PS for that matter?
thank you very much.
Sincerely,
concerned candidate.

I am not sure. It sounds like you would be qualified because I think I am qualified with a 3.375. If you are overqualified and dont receive an appointment this year then look into NWP(Northwestern Prep.). I have heard only great things about it.

Only admissions can tell you if you will be qualified. If you don't apply you won't know if you can get accepted.
Keep in touch with the coach. If you swim over the summer email him your times.
It's risky for anyone who is not sponsored with a scholarship to attend a prep school hoping to gain admission.
Good luck!

I think you definately have a shot to get in.
It almost seems like, other than perhaps your GPA you are a good candidate for the academy itself.
My son was accepted into USMAPS this year and he didn't have nearly the athleticism nor the course load that you have. What he did do was get all of his paperwork in quickly and stayed to touch with his admissions officer.
There are ofcourse a lot of other factors into being selected, but I would have to say that, in my humble opinion, you have a pretty good shot.

Good luck to you, and keep us posted!
