Out of Michigan and I got my appointment in late February. However, I haven't seen anyone else from my state on this forum, and I'm guessing Michigan isn't a very prominent state in terms of sending cadets to service academies. I was wondering which states traditionally send the most appointees per year.

    Texas, California, New York

Based on my less than scientific observations at last year's orientation and I-Day, most folks were from the most populous states and the ones with large military presences. However, with a little digging you can probably find statistics on this.

It's California. The amount of appointees from a state is dependant on the amount of congressional districts.

I agree with mikeandcris, but also would add in VA. NoVA has that silly small building called the Pentagon which has a huge amount of military, and many of them have kids who can get in on presidential, thus they have a huge pool.

I would also say that if you pull out the latest Money, Time, USNWR these states also have nationally ranked top 100 public hs.

Yes and no Phil. You may have the most MOC's, but than there is that silly thing called the NWL and depending on the WCS you could actually find TX to have more than CA based on the NWL. Appointees charged to an MOC would be CA in your scenario, but appointees come in under various charges.

In the end, CA, TX, FL, NY, VA and CO traditionally are the most competitive states for the AFA. As mikeandcris stated it has alot to do with the geographic pool.

CO is competitive for the AFA, but not really for the USMA. Why? Simple the AFA is in CO.

When i went to a thing in dallas they said they had something like 127 people from north texas even though they were supposed to have like half of that.

Not entirely sure how accurate that is though

That can be true, because cadets can be charged to other sources like Presidential, Supe, ROTC, hence my position that you cannot jump/assume that because one state has the most MOCs they have the most apptd.

Can we all say NWL and WCS?

Cyber Nanny has nothing to do with it.

My advice for you would be to just stay home, play Call of Duty or what ever wanna be game you like and strongly consider a different career path.

That has to be the most disgusting thing I have seen written here.

The officer corps in any branch of the service has no room for the likes of you.

Sorry for the strong words, but you earned them.

I really don't think Congressman Van Hollen would like to read a post like this from someone who had received a nomination.

    Pima,

I would agree with you and normally I would disregard such idocy, not this time.

I have friends that work and live in Japan, it was a stressful couple days waiting to hear if they were safe.

The biggest problem here is that this isn't just some crack pot expressing his views to fire things up.

This is a young person that is waiting on an appointment to the AFA. The fact that someone with a lack of honor and integrity will be serving along side well deserving service members. The fact that he could one day be a leader is disappointing at the very least.

What amazes me is that kids post things on boards like this thinking that no one will ever know who they are because they use an anonymous name. They don't understand that the information they post about themselves can give someone enough information to find out who they really are. They are so naive, once you post it, you can't take it back.

    Speaking to the choir.

I already have started the drill into your cranium that no site is anonymous and with a few clicks of a button I can find you...mainly because many join the AFA facebook site.

They actually have an apptmt. They had an LOA and a nom from MD. They are also 21. If facts are true they will be there in July for BCT Class of 15. LOA + nom + 3q = APPOINTMENT.

    IMPO, THEY ARE A TROLL.

Don't buy what they are selling....read their posts.

Who on earth as a 21 yo would say these things? I mean you would believe a 21 yo would have common sense not to ask these questions, or at least investigated what a DOOLIE endures regardless of age.

Wow, not much to say about that. We have friends over in Japan. We are very concerned for them. The problems that they face are truly frightening and tragic, it troubles me how someone - no matter how immature or ignorant can make fun of human suffering.

I apologize for my post; it was done in a moment of immaturity to say the least. The joke was distasteful and insensitive. I wish I could take it back

Back on topic, the ratio, while i was there, was:
    1) TX
    2) CA
    3) FL

20% were from TX, 5% from SE TX (Houston area) alone in 2010.

Those three account for ~50% of the total. Probably 55-60% when you factor in NY (4).
