Hi everyone,

While this is one of my first posts, I have actually been reading and enjoying all of the helpful information on here for quite some time.

I was recently accepted to both USMA SLS (Session 2) & USAFA SS (Session C); still waiting on USNA.

I was wondering what exactly I need to bring, because looking at the instructions, it says that we will be issued several shirts. So I wasn't sure if we get to keep these or not, because I will need to pack my suitcase accordingly.

Also, for anyone who has been to SS, what (if any) thing(s) do you get to keep? Again, just wondering about suitcase space.

Thanks,

You keep everything they give you. Pretty much the only time you don't wear their shirts is when you get there and when you leave. And I guess maybe in your room at night. If I remember correctly, you get like 5 shirts and a jacket.

They tell you to bring a "travel pillow" on the list (I never really figured out why). Definetely just bring a normal pillow. It would have been a little more comfortable to sleep on something thats not as small as your head.

suitcase room

Hi..
Congrats on your acceptance to the SS.. my daughter went to USAFA SS last year and she had the same question.. so we did what we always do on vacation.. packed an empty duffle or overnight type of bag so that she could cram whatever did not fit in suitcase and bring that then as her carry-on. One thing she did not have that she needed was chapstick. CO is high and dry and her lips cracked. She should have been drinking more as well, but.. her cadre bought her some chapstick.. but you may want to bring some with you.:thumb:

Bring khaki pants, since those will not be issued, but other than that and some pajamas, you will not be allowed to wear your normal clothing. And yes, you do keep your issued clothes (I'm wearing my SS shirt right now). BTW, you get A LOT of USAFA stuff, beside clothes, such as a water bottle, towel, key chain, pin, nerf toys, pamphlets, journal, and the list goes on! Kind of a waste IMO, since the vast majority of the stuff I will never use, and will probably toss.

Remember to bring EXTRA space. They give you a lot of stuff including bags, waterbottles, jacket, etc. One of the kids in my element didn't bring enough space to get it all home...well, get it home easily.

how many pairs of shoes would you all recommend?
i was thinking just my one pair of running/athletic shoes and then my "normal" pair of vans to travel with

Yup. Good, comfortable running shoes, and then just a normal pair (they don't care what you wear as your "normal" pair). It's important to have good running shoes, since you'll do PT in the morning for 4 days (or was it 5? Can't remember).

pack exactly what they tell you in the instructions in a huge bag that has extra space, and you will be fine- or at least i was (male)

Thanks for all the replies!

I just wanted to be check and see if I would need a lot of extra space or not.

Thederek - I was planning on bringing 2 pairs of shoes - one for Running/Athletics and one for everything else.
