Alright.... I know in the brochure that it says to wear either nice jeans or khaki pants, along with a collared shirt and comfortable walking shoes.

I'm planning on just wearing a golf shirt, but cant decide between khakis vs. jeans.

For people who have already went to orientation or current cadets that are there and have seen what appointees wear... What are most wearing? Jeans or khakis?

Also, are wearing Nike shocks shoes ok for all the walking? Or do they want fancier?

Thanks

As long as your jeans look nice (not torn or overly baggy) they will be fine. I think there is a pretty even mix of jeans, khaki's and shorts. Shocks are fine. "Fancy" is probably not good.

A tuxedo will probably get you as much attention as a tshirt that says, "Train This!" Try to blend in.

Here's a link to some pictures from last year so you can get an idea:

You'll see a lot of cadre in the pictures all with their mouths wide open. I think they sing songs to the basics when they get off the bus, to teach them what to do and to make them feel happy! lol

I think he is talking about Orientation, not I-day. Here is my advice. Bring a pair of khakis and a polo for the first day, and you can wear just casual clothes on the day that you shadow the cadet (just don't wear anything that would get you in trouble.) I wore khakis both days, but I wish I would have worn jeans or shorts on the second day.

So sorry - I thought the last Orientation was last week. oops!

I wore Jeans and a shirt with a t-shirt underneath. After we met up with the cadets, I took the shirt off and just wore the t-shirt because it was hot inside the dorm rooms. For when you sleep over, I suggest just like shorts and a shirt, because if you're like me and take showers at night, you don't want to take a shower and go straight to pjs, you never know what the plan is. Last time I sat up watching a movie in the entertainment room with a few other appointees till like 2230. So it's not a big deal if you're "underdress" it was very much a casual thing. I thought that with what I had on, I was OVERdressed. lol

My cadet escort told me to dress in the most comfortable clothes, because you're not a cadet yet and no one will judge you if you are underdressed. He also said there is no dress code for appointees, so you can wear gym shorts to class and not worry about anything. I wore nicer clothes, nonetheless, because that's all I intended to wear. Point is, nothing will happen if you want to wear jeans.

may be a little off topic but dont you take sleeping bags to overnight? do you have to carry them around all day?

sleeping bags

yes, you take a sleeping bag...no you do not carry it or your luggage you store all your bags when you check in at the Field House.

My d stored sleeping bag, duffel and went to Monday briefings with a small backpack......you will not need anything for Monday.......just sit back and enjoy, make some friends and take it all in......

shorts/shirt to sleep in, kahkis or nice jeans, comfortable walking shoes, and a decent looking shirt. toiletries, a book or something if you want, that's about it.

i would not recommend wearing gym shorts to class. that's improper in my opinion, and reflects poorly on you. on the other extreme, people do wear suits, and i think that's overboard. moral of the story be COMFORTABLE but PRESENTABLE.

and as for letter jacket, wear what you want. will cadets look at it and laugh. will they remember you or care about it a minute later, no. you're in high school and earned it, so do whatever. i know ppl that still wear high school rings, so wear your jacket if it'll keep you warm.

and for sleeping, they should be provided a cot, sheets, and a blanket by their host cadet

i was lucky enough to get a cot, and from what other ppl were telling me it was kind of rare. cots were pretty comfortable, just really loud when you moved around on it. and yeah as long as you're not "that guy" who wore two different suits over the course of orientation you're fine.

Wear a tux to I-Day... and stand about 2 people away from me

a black hole for attention

if i see a tux, i will count over two ppl and tear into that person instead  haha. j/k

Don't forget to bring work to do because your cadet will probably have work to do as well.

My cadet refused to do homework that night, and then realized at midnight there was work due the next day.

Haha it was funny seeing people in letterman jackets. It was like "Dude, 90% of the people here have one of those" lol.

I want someone in a suit RIGHT next to me during I-day. Actually, I will spot out people that stand out and stand next to them. It's funny how the human brain works, by doing that, I could probably be COMPLETELY invisible to the cadres lol:biggrin:

Haha I didn't say right or left though. Of course, if you did that, I would possibly double over laughing.
