What do new cadets report in on Rday? Low quarters and shorts?

Clean, nice polo, khaki shorts, brown belt, tennis shoes, athletic bag and you're good to go

My cadet wore khaki shorts and a polo shirt. The instructions for new cadets said to wear black socks and low quarters and since he had them, he went ahead and wore them.

Parents, it was very hot that day and after an afternoon shower, hot and humid. Comfortable shoes and cool clothes are a must!

Are cadet candidates required to wear low quarters on R-Day? I would obviously prefer to wear my running shoes and transport my low quarters and boots in my bag. However, I do not want to stand out or break rules by not wearing the low quarters.

2014's instructions said to wear a pair of comfortable, well-fitting, inexpensive black leather shoes with plain toes. Since my cadet had already purchased his low quarters and they were broken in, he wore those along with the plain black dress socks. There were some kids who did not have them on but the kids around us in line did. You don't want to stand out!

One other thing (not a clothing issue), the instructions will tell you that you are not to arrive on R-Day with your head already shaved. My cadet had always worn his hair closely shaved so he had to grow some hair before R-Day. It did help me out at the Oath Ceremony because since he had his head shaved again, he looked normal to me and I spotted him in no time.

Thanks for the response. I'll wear the low quarters as well. I also shave my hair close to my head; I will have to grow my hair out too. Ironic the only time I'll have my hair long is when I'm arriving on R-Day to get it cut again.

My cadet grew it out for a couple of weeks so his scalp was covered.

At the Oath Ceremony, you could tell the guys who had worn their hair very long and down in their face because with the New Cadet haircut, their scalp was snow-white all over their head!

dont "grow your hair out". they dont want you to Bic your head, i got a close cut for this reason alone

YOU WONT GET TO TAKE A SHOWER after your hair cut....
and the day is far from over at that point.
I was told i didnt need a haircut and didnt have hair all over me for all of my R-Day.

But if people didnt show up with long hair then we would be deprived of those fun R-Day youtube videos of unhappy new cadets....

You decide....

Is it ok if I show up with a #1? I would like to avoid getting my hair cut as well if it means keeping hair off me.

Same with me, I usually go a #0. My scalp is already a bit tanned. Probably gonna grow my hair out half an inch or so for R-Day as not to stand out.

Thanks for confirming this!!

We saw many with the low quarters slung over their bag...we were trying to figure out why they didn't follow the directions to wear them...figured they got yelled at about it later.
