I visited the Naval Academy about three weeks ago and attended the admissions briefing. Shortly after, I engaged in a conversation with the admissions counselor (forgot what the conversation was about) and he looked up my name on the computer. I was told that I am a candidate and my preliminary application was approved. However, not thinking, I forgot to ask him when the applications are mailed out. Does anyone know when they will be mailed out? I am getting kind of worried because it has been about a month since I've submitted my preliminary application.

You will receive a letter telling you the application process is open. Last year it didn't open until August 1. WestPoint's opened in June.

Also refer to yourself as Class of 2015 (USNA).

And, if you did the preliminary application, that is about all the "application package" you will actually receive because it is more of a process than a package. What you will get is a password to the Candidate Information System, which will take you to your own candidate page. On that page, you will see a list of items you need to complete. Throughout the process you will receive notifications for such things as your medical check up.
It takes lots of motivation and determination to complete the application process, but being on this site and asking questions is a great help and a good start for you!

BTW, right now you can be getting your nomination packages prepared by looking on the websites for your members of congress and printing out their applications.

Good luck to you and all the USNA Class of 2015 Candidates!!!

Thanks for the responses!! One question though, one of my nomination sources requires a printed copy of my application (academy form). What do I do in that case?

Last year it didn't open until August 1.

SmilingParent - I'm not sure that the August 1 date is correct, because for our son the CIS (Candidate Information System) was available/open in June last year. He applied for NASS, didn't get in, but received a letter from USNA Admissions dated June 8 saying he was an official candidate. The letter contained his candidate number as well as a user name and password to be used when logging on to CIS. His application was probably 75% complete by August 1. The letter stated that it was to the candidate's advantage to complete the candidate application record ASAP because the admissions board began reviewing them in September. Another advantage, for us at least, was that son was able to do the DoDMERB physical/eye exam over the summer instead of during school (the physician he was assigned to was almost 2 hours away, so it was a full day event for us).

Neugs - once you get on CIS and fill out your application, you can print it off and give a copy to your nom. source. It's a very good idea to print a copy of everything before you submit it, because once you click that submit button it's gone! :thumb:
