While we're on this topic, can someone clear up a couple questions I have?

What's the difference between recognition and acceptance day? Clearly one ends after BCT and the other later in the year, but what is the meaning of each?

After which of these two do the new cadets get their shoulder boards?

Acceptance day is when the basic cadets are accepted into the cadet wing and receive their shoulder boards. They are allowed to move about the campus unescorted. They are still considered doolies and have many restrictions.

Recognition is when the C4Cs are viewed as upperclassmen and restrictions are lifted. They are given their prop and wings at that time. It is a very emotional time for cadets and can only be explained by someone who has gone through it.

A-Day gives you the false sense of being a person and having rights. Recognition is when you actually are a person again and do have rights.

Doolie Day Out is July 15th. You will not see your basic on this day. The approx. 2 hours comes after the acceptance day parade on the August 7th.

Oh crap. What the heck was I thinking when I posted that! I was referring to Acceptance Day and the 2 hour limit, not Doolie Day. My apologies...just wasn't paying attention to detail.

The following is an email that all Colorado Parent members received today:

I hope this helps clear up things, I sent this to all - since I am not sure whom has sponsor cadets also. Thanks, Valerie

E- MAIL FROM USAFA PARENT LIAISON

There appears to be some confusion. Please note that Parents will not be able to see their cadets on Doolie Day out unless they are an official local sponsor. Please get the word out to the parents. The Sponsor office is getting lots of calls.

Also the Rodeo is on 14 Jul.

I have received multiple questions on date changes for the summer and have confirmed the following dates with the cadet wing.

    14 July 12 Rodeo

15 Jul 12 Doolie Day Out (0800- 1700) Can go to sponsors house. Info mailed out to sponsors today. Pickup in front of the field house. This was moved so cadets can go to the rodeo on 14 Jul.

16 Jul 12 March out to Jacks Valley

28 Jul 12 March back from Jacks Valley

7 Aug 12 Acceptance Parade (0900) (not 8 Aug) Parents/sponsor have from 1100 – 1245 (cadet has to be in place by 1300) Cadets must stay on base.

9 Aug 12 Commitment Dinner (changed from 8 Aug 12 due to speaker conflict)

9 Aug 12 New Semester Classes start

Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

    Thanks so much,
    Marie

So question/answer #4 on the BCT FAQ page is incorrect?

My DD Class of 2016 wrote in one of her letters that 14 July is Field Competition Day. I realize her snail mail info is dated, so perhaps there was a change. Rodeo or Field Competition on Saturday, either way, it's a good deal for the basics!

The information in my post above is the official info now being distributed to parent groups by the Academy. The info posted elsewhere may (according to what has been sent to Colorado parent members of AOG) be wrong. I think you can rely on the above dates/info that was sent by the Academy rep to parent group representatives.
