I'm really interested in attending VMI, and I was wondering when they prefer you to apply. I'm a junior right now. I hear the Citadel prefers applications by the end of your junior year, is this true at VMI as well?

Also, what are the chances of a 4 year ROTC scholarship to VMI for a qualified applicant? Will there be less slots open or more competitive because it is VMI? Any advice or help would be appreciated.

you won't be able to apply to VMI until next year. they will open on-line registration for early decision and that will close out around 15 November. My DS did receive a 4 year AFROTC scholarship, not sure how he ranks up against others, but we were told having an EE major did help his chances.

I applied to VMI during the fall of my senior year and was accepted in the beginning of January.
I also received a 4 year- full tuition, AROTC scholarship to VMI. I am currently a senior so I will be heading to VMI this fall! :)

My advice to you is to be as active as you possibly can in your school and community. I am involved in every club and organization I can get my hands on. Become your counselors best friend, because they can give you key points and help you become involved. Take a class to try and improve your SAT/ACT. A major part of the ROTC scholarship process is an interview. I had a pre-interview over the phone and an actual interview in person. This was probably my tenth interview that I have done, so I was very comfortable and knew the process.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

I'm at VMI on a 4 year AROTC scholarship. Apply to VMI as soon as they start accepting applications. As far as scholarships go, the Army dept. here is good with helping you out. Apply for the national scholarship now, because even if you don't get that, there's a chance you can get a 3 or 4 year campus based scholarship. Most of the 3-years here got upgraded to 3.5 year scholarships because they had good grades/pt scores.
