I opened my Army ROTC application about two weeks ago and just got a letter in the mail explaining the process and it says I have 30 days to accept the scholarship once it is offered however West Point is my first choice and now that they eliminated their rolling applications process I won't find out whether I receive an appointment until the spring. I wanted to submit my ROTC application as soon as possible so I can get my medical exam taken care of (I had a slight fractured vertebrae last year that's a disqualification) so I have ample time to apply for a waiver. What should I do about submitting my applications in order to keep my options open but have enough time to apply for a medical waiver?

Assuming you are a high school senior you need to apply now. If you receive an AROTC scholarship you can accept the scholarship and then wait to see if you are accepted at West Point. Many successful candidates get multiple offers (West Point, Annapolis, AROTC, NROTC, and AFROTC) and then make their final decision at a later date.

Thanks for the reply. So if I accept an ROTC scholarship and were to at a later date receive an appointment an academy I could still attend the academy even though I had already accepted the ROTC scholarship? (yes I am a high school senior)

Yes, that is correct.

My DS accepted his AROTC scholarship and then, maybe a month prior (?) to school starting, got another letter asking him to confirm or decline that he would be utilizing it.
