I know that this will vary with each detachment, but as an AFROTC 4 year type 7 scholarship recipient, about how long does it take to be contracted? And what all do I need to do to make that happen?

I know that I need to pass a PFT, and I know that that won't be till October. Does that mean I have to go ahead and pay my bill and wait to be reimbursed? Or am I completely responsible for paying for my tuition until I'm contracted?

I'm assuming that the book allowance/stipends also won't start until I'm contracted?

You are correct about the book allowance and stipends. Tuition payments vary by school but most will wait on the ROTC tuition payment. Call your bursar's office for details on how your college handles it.

AFROTCI 36-2011, Cadet Operations, deals with this kind of stuff.

    3.44. Scholarship Activation Standards.
3.44.6. Pass the PFA and meet the AFROTC weight/BMI standards. NOTE: 4- Year HSSP cadets contracting during the fall semester are not required to pass the PFA prior to contracting.

So no, you don't have to pass the PFA prior to contract so do that as soon as possible. 4-year HSSP winners also get travel from home to the detachment for the sole purpose of contracting reimbursed, so look into that.
