Hey everyone, I'm a candidate for the class of 2015. Was just wondering how many people are already done with their application. At the Summer Seminar, I was told to apply as early as possible in August, any idea on when in August they begin to look at applications? I'm nearly done with mine, I'm just working on my personal statement to ensure it's the best it can be, but i'm just a little anxious that I should be submitting it ASAP. Thanks

I'm done with everything except the CFA and BGO interview. I'm doing the CFA on the 21st and the interview on the 18th. So I'll be 100 percent done on the 21st.

I have everything done, except my BGO interview. It's probably because I'm waiting on my counselor and English teacher to submit my stuff in. It's really annoying waiting for them, haha. I'm just super impatient. I had everything done and my MOC apps sent out last month.

My son has finished everything except for one teacher recommendation (which we are assured will be submitted within two weeks).
CFA done the first week of June. DoDMERB passed and B&G interview was last week.
NROTC app and interview complete and he'll meet the August board.
MOCS apps and essays are complete except one MOC who won't release his essay question until two weeks before the interview (October?).
June and July were for the military and college visits...August is for college apps. Sept through Dec are for maximizing first semester grades and MOC interviews.
    Good Luck everyone.:thumb:

My file was complete by the 20th of July, including the medical exam.

My son has his 100% complete too, although he plans to retake the CFA to try to improve (passed it at NASS) and is retaking the ACT in Sept again just to see if he can do better! Otherwise all, including medical and BGO interview, are done! :thumb:

I've completed everything except for my BGO interview and my nomination apps. I've got my NROTC interview today, then after that I should be through with that part.

Hey guys. Ive been a bit reluctant to finish my application because I am in the middle of my Eagle project. I should finish it by the end of september.
But I know my application will be a whole lot stronger with Eagle Scout on it. So would you suggest finishing my application anyways? and updating later?

How difficult is it to update later on?

Yeah I would go ahead and finish it now. Then shoot a note to your regional director and tell them you are an eagle scout.

Y'all are smart to get as much submitted during the summer as you can. Even your applications for civilian schools. My son submitted everything before school started, which was fortunate, since he had to redo something on his medical and it was much easier to schedule that during the summer. Senior year gets crazy with trying to keep up your grades, sports, school and community involvement, etc. You can update your applications with any awards you receive as the year goes on. He was able to enjoy his last year of high school without the stress of application deadlines looming over him, and he is now part of the Class of 2014. Go Navy! Beat Army!

DS's USNA app was complete in July before he went off to sports camp in mid July. MOC apps were sent in then too. He just needs to schedule his B&G interview. He did his CFA at NASS and DoDMERB exams were the end of June and qualified.

My application was complete before I left for Summer Seminar first session. Did DoDMERB and BGO interview when I got back. Was first in GA to submit nomination applications. Just waiting on the Academy and the nomination boards now!

My application is complete as well. I am done with DoDMERB and BGO interview. The only thing left is to work on is nominations.

Last year BGO told us that they look at the first group of apps during the first week of September. Great work getting things done early! DS was the first in our state to complete his apps, both for MOCs and USNA. I can't help but think that assisted in his three nominations and his ultimate appointment to Class of 2014. Good luck to all of you!! Go Navy!!!! :thumb:

Concur with MomoftheMajik. We recently returned from a visit USNA and during the admissions brief they told us the rolling admissions would start in early September and they would meet each week after that to start filling the class.

I am going into my junior year of high school. When should I start putting my application together? I take the SAT December 4.

Start by taking hard courses and receiving good grades. Try to take an SAT prep course. My advice is to take the May SAT. I know a lot of smart kids that took the SAT in winter thinking they were going to get a leg up on everyone and do really well, but you're competing against seniors who have probably taken the SAT one or two times before. It's curved so that means you might end up with a lower score because you were competing against more experienced SAT-takers. In May you'll be taking it with other juniors and you're on a more even playing field.

Hopefully you play varsity sports. Dedicate yourself to becoming a captain on a team. Join a club or two as well, if you haven't already, and stick to it. Look for leadership positions. Fitness is important too. The earlier you start preparing, the more prepared you'll be for I-Day. You'll thank yourself.

Apply for Summer Seminar, which I think comes out in winter or early spring. The better your SAT or PSAT score/grades, the better your chances of getting in. If you do get in, perform as best as you can. It can work against you if you don't perform. If you don't get in, it's not the end of the world, my friend didn't do SS but he still got in.

Summer before senior year is when you wanna start knocking out the application itself. Ask your junior year math and english teachers for recommendations before school ends. Finish your essay before school starts. The earlier you finish, the better your chances.

Awesome! Thank you so much! I am currently attending a private school, so sports isn't the most competitive, unfortunately. I'm on the basketball team and will be working hard to achieve captain this year.

I'm also a Young Marine and have been for the past six years. I'm currently ranking Gunnery Sergeant, but hoping to be promoted to Master Sergeant by Next winter! I hope they can see my leadership and dedication throughout that program. Another question...in my Young Marines program, I've won many ribbons and awards for accomplishments such as 1st Place Map and Compass (team leader), Honor Recruit, Scuba Certification, Advanced First Aid and CPR, Fire Prevention, 1st class Physical Fitness, Color Guard (over 150 hours), Community Service, Kiwanis Community Service (1000 hours), 1st Place Drill Competition (Platoon Commander), Perfect Attendance, Outstanding Salesman (I organized many events and fundraisers to raise money for our unit.), Sportsmanship, Musician, Advanced Field, Advanced Land Navigation, and shooting for this upcoming year to apply for Young Marine of the Year! Should I let them (USNA) know about these?

Thank you for the knowledge about the SAT. I will still take it in December to see how I do and will take your advice, and retake it maybe March/April.

Also, does anyone know what the essay question asks?

Last question! I promise : ) What do I wear for my interviews? (BGO, Congressman, appointment at USNA!!!!) Should I dress in a suit, my Charlies uniform, regular, everyday clothes?
