Who is still waiting?

Son is 3 Q'd, has 3 noms (1MOC, 1Pres, 1NJROTC) and still waiting. USNA is only academy he wants to attend so didn't apply to others. He was accepted to choices 2 - 5 in December and was awarded NROTC/Marine Option scholarship in December as well. Yet we're still waiting.

You are kidding me!! Even with a Presdential nom you are still waiting?? I thought those noms were a gauranteed appt. as long as you were 3Q'D...I must of been mis-informed...wow...that stinks!! Hope you, and ALL of us here something VERY VERY soon...my son is like your son --the fact that he ONLY wanted USNA...didn't even complete his app to West Point...although they showed WAYYYY more interest in my son than USNA....called him EVERY week, sent MANY letters to encourage him to finish the app...but he reamins committed to USNA...lets hope they are as committed to HIM!!

Hi Harmi! I wish presidential noms. worked that way...DD has one. They are automatically given to those who qualifiy but only 100 can be charged towards an appointment.

SERIOUSLY SHORTMOM!??!!! GEESHHH!! All this time I thought they were a "Shoe In''...I'm sorry...I DO wish for your daughter and others that my thoughts were right...I liked what I believed in my own little head MUCH better...LOL!!! DARNNNN!!!

If you have an LOA, are medically and physically qualified, and have a Pres nom, you are guaranteed an appointment. The other Pres nom candidates compete for what remains of the 100 spots or go into a national pool from which some will receive appointments slotted to another source (e.g., SecNav). Considering there are usually several thousand candidates with Pres noms, it's definitely not a shoe-in.

we are from WA state. Which district are you from? I haven't heard anything from anyone. Son has 2 noms for the USNA and we are still waiting. It is kind of late and I am starting to get worried.

Dragon6, where are you from?
mmb5, did I see that you had an appointment for USMA? You are the only one that I have seen that shows that anyone knows that we are out here. I wonder if our slates have even been looked at yet.
Does anyone know?

Oh, I guess that I should also say that he got noms for USMA and USAFA also. We haven't heard anything there either. I sure do hope that this is not a bad sign.

anybody else from GA still waiting? I get more nervous with every day that passes.

Exactly, only 100 from the Presidential pool and only 20 from the NJROTC pool will receive appointments. Unfortunately, his MOC nom is as an alternate as the congressman sets his primary and the other 9 are considered alternates. Our hope though is that by having 3 different sources that gives admissions enough to work w/ because lets face it the entire nomination/appointment process is a complete shell game.

One annoying tidbit was one of our Senator's gave him his primary nom to USMA, even though he was clear he was only interested in USNA since he wants to be a Marine.

Supposedly the Marine option NROTC scholarship is harder to get than an appointment, don't know if thats true but the fact that he earned that off the first board that met has to speak well to his qualifications.

Thankfully he is dealing w/ the wait better than his mother and I.

One thing that gives me solace is that IF the individual is 3 Q'd AND has a nomination their odds of an appointment are pretty good. 83% is the number given at the Oct 2008 USNA open house in DC by Capt Ripley, an area BGO.

The break down we were given was 11k applicants (class of 2012), 3838 had nom, 2196 were 3 Q'd and 1500 were offerred appointments, 1200 accepted. Unfortunately, I don't have the specific number that were both 3 Q'd AND had a nom. The fact that 3800+ had nominations but only 2196 were actually qualified speaks volumes about the entire nomination process in my opinion.

Now from what I understand there were nearly 20K applicants this year so the odds MAY be worse. The key point to remember is just because 20K applied doesn't mean that's how many are actually in the running.

Regardless, as noted above of those that had the nom AND 3 Q'd, 83% were successful. I like those odds! :thumb:
