Who is still waiting?

You all are going to give yourselves an ulcer. When an individual applies to the academy, I make it very clear: "Appointments are given out in March/April". If it happens to come earlier, congratulations. If not, then you are "NORMAL". Same with an LOA. If you happen to get an LOA prior to nominations, then that's great. Hopefully you'll get your nomination. If not; so what? You're in the 90%+ that doesn't receive an LOA. Appointments are given out in March/April. Plan accordingly. Make sure you've applied to other colleges/universities. Make sure you have your plans laid out. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Remember: MORE people WON'T get an appointment, than those who DO get an appointment. And while a nomination is required, it in no way guarantees you an appointment. Not unless your MOC gives "Principal" nominations. "Which most don't".

Anyway; don't give yourselves ulcers. Finish up applying to other schools and getting your financial aid done with them. Remember; the academies are equal to the Ivy and upper private colleges/universities in the country. If you are qualified to get into one of the military academies, you are qualified to get into Brown, Purdue, Harvard, Stanford, Michigan State, Penn, USC, W&M, Georgetown, etc.... If you aren't applying to some of the finest schools in the country, then you are cheating yourselves. If you believe that you aren't good enough to get into those schools, then you are mistaken. "If you believe you're good enough to get into a military academy". If you think that you can't "Afford" to go to these other high end schools, then you have been given some really bad information from someone. Point is: You need to cover all your options. Personally; if your choices are Military academies or Local Community College; then there's definitely something wrong with your plan. If you really, truly, want to serve in the military as a commissioned officer, then realize that the academies are only 1 of a number of ways to accomplish that. If you want to attend the academy strictly for the free/reduced education costs..... Then I can't respond to that.

Either way: I wish each of you who are waiting, the best of luck. I really do hope that it all works out for you. But there is absolutely nothing any of you can do from this day forward, to increase your chances of getting an appointment. But you can continue to apply to other schools just in case the academy doesn't come through for you. If you've already applied to other schools, "Have you been accepted"? Have you gotten the finances arranged to attend these other schools? Are they the school that you really want; should the academy fall through? If you answered no to any of these questions, then put your energy there. We all understand the frustration, anticipation, stress, etc... that waiting for an appointment does to you. But put your energy towards things that you can affect. Best of luck to all of you. Mike.....

true that. relax guys. i know it seems like everyone on this forum is in, but the fact is that they are among the only 150 LOAs given out. regular admissions starts in march, so just relax. getting an LOA is like getting a early decision acceptance to harvard.

yea yea. I think we all know we shouldn't worry so much but it is hard. Plus I thinks it's time we had more of us non-LOA candidates in one place. I think this process is a completely different animal to all of us. I sure wish I could post up that I had gotten my BFE, but it looks like im stuck to whining about waiting. lol

haha it's my third time applying... I have a 590 reading 650 math and a 3.1 college GPA Electrical Engineering. I also have an AFROTC nom and a congressional.

it's my second time applying. i applied in 2008 as a senior, but then i broke my wrist and it was over. 2 years of college later and i'm giving it another try.

Still waiting in IN

My son is still waiting, District 4 in IN. I agree, the wait is grueling! Good luck to you!

I didn't get my appointment until March 3rd of last year. It is truly the norm to get it in March. Don't sweat it and enjoy your time while you still can!!

My AAOC who works in the admissions office told my squad that all of the appointments for 2015 had been sent out.... Don't really know how to take that (maybe I misheard him) especially since that would be a lot different than how they've done appointments in the past, but he did say that 2015 is going to be A LOT smaller than 2014 since we have too many cadets right now.

I have a hard time believing that. Especially since we aren't even to the deadlines for the nominations. The smaller class size isn't a new thing either. It's not like it's gonna be cut in half. 2015 is gonna be about 200 smaller. Something doesn't add up.

Can you doublecheck with him cuz I'm guessing all the Early Admissions (aka LOAs) have been sent out but definately not the rest of the normal appointments. I think there was some miscommunication between you two or him and whoever he talked to in the admissions office.

Guys!! don't worry about what he said. That isn't true at all!! each class year they are maybe cutting only a hundred down. I got this source from an academy student who was at the briefing. Also, most appointments, as said by Liaisons on this site, are given out in march. LOA's are coming in now, normal appointments later. Be patient!!

Cadet strength is determined at the end of the school yr.

I do bet because of force shape re-structuring it will be smaller, but as Nate stated, it isn't going to be that they offer only 500 instead of 1200. I bet it will be more likely that they offer 1400 instead of 1600, hoping for a class of 1100.

I also agree, there is no way every apptmt has been given out, since MOC slates are not due until the 31st of Jan.

Plus, the drop dead date for applicants will be in Feb. thus, they need to wait until everyone on the slate has a WCS.

March is when it will be the big drop.

I do think what was said, was every LOA was given out, not every apptmt. The AFA is the stingiest when it comes to LOA's, they are not common at all, maybe 5% of all candidates will get one.

The way to know if the comment that all of the apptmts truly went out would be to look at the 2015 apptmt thread. It is not moving with 5 or 10 per week, but drips and drabs.

Trust me, that thread for weeks will be on fire when it happens, and it won't be discussions, just name after name.

You have time, like others say be patient.

Strike Eagle,

Hey I'm applying again and I'm college. I was wondering what you did differently from high school? Also did you do rotc at your college?

@ sport1356,

I might be able to help you out since I have received an Appointment after the second try.
I applied during my senior year in HS and didn't receive an appointment. Thankfully, I received the ROTC scholarship! I ended up attending college with the ROTC scholarship and once again reapplied this year - then voila, here i am C'O of 2015! So now I'm just finishing my freshman year and preparing for the Academy.

Honestly just continue to maintain a high GPA (of course with a strong courseload), leadership and volunteer experiences (in my case through ROTC) and as an added bonus max out on some of the PFA events.

Also, I do believe that the interview definitely helped!

Good luck!

Strike Eagle,

I'm still waiting to hear if I got my appointment or not. I am currently doing AFROTC, two organizations at my school, one of which teaches small unit tactics and survival training, another is a professional development/leadership/community service organization called silver wings. I have an intense course load also and got a 3.8 gpa last semester. I brought up my fitness score too this time around and have had many leadership positions in ROTC such as being my class leader, hand picked by my APAS.

Keep working hard and keep staying involved! It already looks better than you are applying again, it shows your dedication.
