Who's applying for USNA STEM/Later Acceptance Thread

2012 - thanks for the heads up! My son just finished his STEM application - lots of room to put in additional activities on that one - he managed to pretty much get his whole resume in between the EC and the Athletic Portion (and the extra comments/remarks box). Good luck to everyone - my son is a freshman though, so wouldn't get to meet any of you this summer!

2012 (Or anyone else who has applied) - did you get a confirmation email? How long did it take? When my older son applied for NASS earlier this week, he got one almost immediately but it's been a few hours now, and younger son hasn't gotten one. I'm afraid to click out of the "Success - your STEM application has been submitted" page so I keep leaving it up here on the computer!

Yes, once I finished and submitted the app I later received a confirmation email saying they consider apps on a rolling basis, etc. Really, the app wasn't all that bad (took about 30 min. to complete). As long as your son is good with his personal statement and you have put down all the necessary info, just submit it...I wouldn't worry too much. Best of luck to both your sons.

Ah, the wait is going to kill me. I received a confirmation email within 5 minutes of submitting it. The application itself was easy other than the personal statement. It took me forever trying to word it right... hah. Hopefully everyone gets in!:thumb:

It says you'll know by May 1st. Does that mean ON May first, or anytime before it?

Hm, my concern is that he didn't get that email. He did submit it back when I first posted - many hours ago, and got the next page that said his application was successfully submitted. But he never got the email. I printed it out before he submitted, and checked to make sure the email was correct, which it is. If he doesn't get one by Monday or so, maybe he should email the RD or something?

Yeah, I'd say call the Admission's office. Even though the email was correct, a problem might've occurred so that it didn't send properly.

I know right...I just had to give it up and submit because I was sitting there forever with my personal statement and could never get it "perfect". As for the notification, it's any date before May 1st.

I am also interested in this program and this is the first time I have ever heard about it. We do not take our PSATs until junior year is what I am informed. Are the PSAT, ACT, or SAT scores required to apply for USNA Stem Program?

No you do not have to PSAT scores on it. I wasn't able to get them on the application, but I think it makes little to no difference if you have them or not.

2012- Ha, yeah I gave up after about an hour on it. I think it was one of those things if you think too much about it will be worse than before.

Hey, just letting you guys know I called USNA today for my son (okay, he's a freshman, I can still get away with that! ) and his STEM application did go through. No idea why we didn't get the email, but she confirmed that his email address was correct so hopefully it will be okay.

On the flip side, we found out in the meantime that the Honors Band he's auditioning for (and has done for the past 3 years at the Middle School Level) has a mandatory 4 night camp that would start the day his STEM ends - think he could fly right from BWI to Wisconsin and handle another camp from there? Not sure what other options there would be!

I know kids who came straight from westpoint's summer program to NASS when I was there. They were getting flights all day. I'm sure its not a problem.

Sure why not if you think he can handle it. If my son gets in to STEM he will be attending JROTC summer camp first with 2 days rest then on to STEM. I talked to my daughters admissions officer yesterday and he said they were behind on STEM because of the winter storms so it maybe a little slow. They were in the offices yesterdays for a little bit trying to catch up on work before the next storm hit. So did they confirm me was accepted to STEM????

They told me the same thing right away when I called yesterday - "We're expecting another foot!" Actually confused me for a second because it had nothing to do with the conversation!

I'm probably less worried about my son handling it than about the timeline in general - not sure what time they're done at STEM (and we're not going with him so would be dependent on the buses/flights) and what time he should be at band. I suppose I'm getting way ahead of myself though since he hasn't been accepted for either of these things yet!

So to answer the other question, no, they didn't confirm he was accepted - just that he was in their database as having submitted an application.

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up about STEM. I probably would not have know about it were it not for this thread. Daughter has applied, she's going to be a rising junior.
As her brother is USMA 2014, she got a kick out of the "beat Army" line on the confirming e-mail.

Anyone heard anything yet or know anything, or are they really going to drag this out and milk it for all it's worth.

Nope. Nothing. I don't thing we'll hear anything until a few days before May 1st, which is a bummer..

I would guess this is a lower priority than NASS, and we haven't heard about either yet. From what we've heard, they're behind on admissions for 2014, so that's even more of a priority!
