During my attendance at the summer camps this year, there was no wifi in the dorms. Im guessing this leads to huge data usage on phones for Cadets. IS there some wifi that cadets on connect to?

Wifi

From what I understand, there is campus-wide wifi. If may have been turned off in the areas you were in.

Yeah, don't count on getting wifi on your phone here...you MIGHT be able to use your computer to get onto the academic building's wifi network from your room, but you still need your secure login, so that won't really help you with your phone.

Also, creating your own wifi network here is a big no-no.

To clarify, plugging a wireless router into the USAFA network is the big no-no. Nothing is stoping you from making a wireless hotspot from your phone's data connection. Except for cost and cellular reception...

To answer your question:

In the dorms: NO WIFI (Unless you have a room close to the academic building in which you might get very unreliable spotty WIFI for use on your government laptop ONLY.)

In the Academic Building: Yes WIFI, but only on government laptop or personal laptop with a ghosted image of a government laptop on it.

Everywhere else: Nope.

If you want WIFI for a personal laptop, your best bet is to get a hot spot or enable the hot spot on your phone. Verizon gets the best service in Vandenberg. I hear ATT gets the best in Sijan, but I cannot confirm because I don't live there. Sprint gets service in the southwestern-most corner of the library on Tuesdays, if it's partly cloudy, and you stand on top of a bookcase while holding your breath.

^^that. sorry for the lack of clarity.

I do want to note that wireless routers have been put in in the ceilings in Vandy. They aren't broadcasting anything (yet) but do indicate that there *MIGHT* be wireless coming to the dorms soon. Ive heard rumors, but if that's just the rumor mill pumping it out then i wouldn't give it much attention.

tl;dr Possible Wi-Fi in the future, no information available beyond that.
