Will my ACT scores hurt?

I had the Collegeboard send my SAT scores from January to the USNA and they were:

    Math: 760
    CR: 660
    W: 650

Today I got back my ACT scores and when I registered for the test I picked USNA as a school to receive the scores, but I'm not sure if they'll help me because I'm not sure if they're better or worse than my SAT scores.

    Composite: 33
    English: 34
    Math: 32
    Reading: 33
    Science: 31

I had a 760 in math on the SAT which is close to a perfect score (800), but my 32 in math on the ACT isn't really close to a perfect score IMO (36). Will the academy just disregard my poor performance on the math of the ACT since I did better on the math on the SAT?

Also, I know that USNA considers only English and Math of the ACT, so will they replace my lowish score of 660 in CR of the SAT with my 34 in English on the ACT?

How does the USNA compare ACTs with SATs? (ex: 36 on ACT English = 800 on SAT critical reading)?

    Thanks

Here's a chart to help you compare scores between the two. Conversion chart You can use google to find other charts as well; there are dozens out there. You're right about USNA only using math and english for the ACT. Both tests are weighed the same though, to my knowledge.

Send both. It won't hurt you. Pretty sure your ACT English and SAT Math are higher. USNA uses a superscore, and will select best scores from each section out of every sitting. I do believe USNA will also mix and match sections from ACT and SAT, but I may be wrong. ACT scores are converted to an SAT equivalent.

Thanks for your response, do you know the conversion that USNA uses to change the scores from ACT to SAT?

Don't have the exact table, but I don't think the link pilot2b posted is all too incorrect.

When I was at USNA recently I asked an admissions counselor there who held the admissions briefing their judgments on ACT vs. SAT.

There's no disadvantage by any means for submitting one or the other. I could imagine submitting both would be the best idea.

As far as conversions, she told me that (I think the College Board) submits a conversion chart equating ACT vs. SAT scores and that they use this to convert ACT to SAT scores. So they essentially use SAT scores as their standard, but the ACT suffices equally.

By all means, send both sets of scores. USNA "superscores" test results, meaning they take the highest scores, even if they are from different tests. IOW, they can use your SAT math score and your ACT English score.

    Well done!

Those are good scores but as the competitiveness increases, even hitting max still doesn't guarantee anything.

I would sent those in too.

Thing to note is that your congressmen might not superscore so nicely or superscore at all. Make sure you know the specifics, some districts are really cutthroat.

My S submited his ACT scores, but they had his SAT scores. How they got them, I have no idea - perhaps from his HS transcript.

Also, I took my SATs a second time and had the collegeboard send the scores to USNA before I saw the scores myself. I scored lower in every section the second time I took the SATs, so since USNA already has my scores from the first time will they just throw away/ not consider my second set of scores because they are all lower?

USNA will give you your absolute best math and verbal scores from either SAT or ACT exams regardless of sequence. Don't worry about the conversion tables - USNA will make the selection and you will see the results on CIS. Superficially, your scores are very good, but I don't know anything about the competitiveness of your area, so I can't comment beyond that. Best wishes.
