I did a search, and I know this question, or similar ones, have been asked before...but I didn't notice one specifically dealing with USMA, and I'm not sure how much policies and procedures differ among the academies, so I'll ask again...

My son will be heading to USMA next month; he is having his wisdom teeth removed this week; does he need to notify someone after it's done? If so, who, when, and how?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Do you still have the cover letter that came with your dental forms? If so, there is a phone number at the bottom of the letter with a number to call if you have any questions re dental. If you don't have the letter, post back and I will PM it to you.

Just went through this w/ a neighbor...the xrays you send will show there are no wisdom teeth...no need to contact them.

I believe we do still have the letter--all I have to do is wade through that stack of forms!

As for the x-rays...they were done/sent weeks ago--do we need to have another set sent after the teeth come out?

My big fear is that he'll somehow get caught in red tape because he had 'a surgical procedure' after passing his DODMERB exam...

I will PM you the number. That way you can get your answers and not have to worry anymore. There are plenty of other things for us to worry about between now and R-day! :shake:

My neighbor had the same concern about dodmerb and wisdom teeth. She called and said it didn't have to go to dodmerb...you will feel better after you call, but this is what they will tell you, too.

Do you have to have them removed? I still have mine and sent the dental form months ago. They never said anything about it.

From what I have read in the "Instructions" booklet and the Dental forms cover letter, it looks like they will look at your x-rays and determine if you have any disqualifying dental conditions ( one being the presence of wisdom teeth that may be a problem) and will give you feedback. Call that number if you have any concerns.

Originally, our plan was to wait to see if our son was instructed to have them removed...however, even though they weren't bothering him yet, both our family dentist and the oral surgeon who did the panographic xrays said they looked as though they'd cause him trouble before long. We decided to go ahead and have it done now, when he could get the sympathy and recuperation time that he'd only get at home.

BTW, we've never heard anything from the Dental office in response to his xrays...I called and left a message last month, but didn't hear back; decided to just go ahead rather than risk finding out at the last minute that he needed it done.

On this topic, I would say just get them pulled now. I'm not a hudred percent positive but it sounds like they pull them at the academies any way so why hassle with it then. Mine are coming out next week (all four). no sweat.. right?
