My DS got his wisdom teeth out today as it was suggested in the dental letter they sent out with all the paperwork when he got his appointment. Anyone know where he has to report it? I assume he needs to get it updated in DODMERB? He already sent in his dental X-rays about 2 weeks ago, so it was all prior to the surgery. He sent the X-rays to the email provided so we figure he will also let them know there as he hasn’t received his green check from dental yet. I wonder if he will have to send in a new pano X-ray?

I assume he won’t be the only one going through this, so hoped someone knew what to do.

My DS just had the same today (28 appointment as well). He's been groggy for the whole day. I assume the revised x-rays will get submitted and that's about it.

(At first, I was shocked at the price of having his wisdom teeth removed.... but when he was leaving the office, the doc gave him a pint of premium ice cream to take home. Sheesh. I would have taken the $6 discount and just given DS an ice cube to suck on. )

We didn’t even get ice cream, just a huge bill and a couple of Rx which we didn’t pickup since he felt ok. He’s really groggy too. Went to bed at 8:30. Hoping he sleeps! Glad it’s over. He was worried he wouldn’t get them out and have a problem once he got to WP on R day.

Felt like we went to a factory of wisdom teeth removal. He was done in like 15 minutes and they had others lined up to go…I’m in the wrong field!

Was disappointed he didn’t have any funny vents or anything I could record to make fun of him after 🤣

last year, the dentist confirmed on the dental form that wisdom teeth had been extracted and dated, my son had no issues

Was there an issue with the teeth that required their removal, or did you just decide best to remove them to avoid any issues down the road?

we did it as it was highly recommended by other cadets. It was better for him to do it while at home and while in the academy

DS did it almost 3 weeks ago and I have a video (dr warned us about the effects of anesthetics) 😂.

My DS2026 (yearling) also had his wisdom teeth removed before R-Day. There's nothing wrong with his teeth. His personal dentist also recommended removal, said it's better long term, those teeth are hard to care for due to location and cause issues later on.

He's happy afterwards that he did so - he saw some classmates who eventually needed to have it done while they were already in the busy academic year. As for reporting, no need to report in his case, as per DoDMERB, was not required. He said the USMA dentist checked all new cadet candidates as part of Beast activities, and noted in his record that the wisdom teeth were missing/removed. Unless you're specifically instructed to report it now, it shouldn't be an issue.

We did it to be safe as we had heard stories of kids having issues while at WP. Our dentist gave us a referral when we asked to an Oral Surgeon. The dentist wasn't worried about him, but said it was fine to see the oral surgeon. The oral surgeon said it was just safer to have them removed as sometimes they get infected or come in all crazy. He also had braces a few years earlier, so didn't know if it would mess up his teeth if they came in. It was nice to get it done on a day off (ACT day in Ohio so seniors had the day off) and then he took the following day off to relax and recover more.

My DS (current plebe) is having his removed when he is home this summer. He will have three weeks off, so he wont have to deal with it during the academic year (and momma bear there to help.) I can only imagine the videos roommates would have as they care for their buddies recovering from anesthesia if he had them removed in school.
