Son just received appointment packet with tons of information. Little concerned about the paragraph or two about wisdom teeth. How necessary is it for wisdom teeth to be removed if not causing any problems? Our dentist stated that there are no eruptions or impactions at this time and did not see any reason for removal. Dentist stated that it may become necessary in the future (read 4 to 10 years), but not at this time. I know there was a small thread about this elsewhere, but would like some more information if it is available. Thanks so much.

Good question....my D is in the same boat. No problems with the wisdom teeth yet...so do they HAVE TO BE removed now??

No -- DS reported last June with the 2 wisdom teeth he has still unerupted and there have been no issues. They do see a dentist during BCT who will examine them. Even heard of some basics having them out during BCT or right before classes began at the dental clinic there.

First child reported to AFA with all 4 wisdom teeth. Dentist said no issues. He has not had any issues since being at AFA and he has seen the dentist regularly out there. Several of his classmates have had their wisdom teeth out while there. They all take care of one another. The procedure seems to be done on a Friday and they miss classes and have the weekend to recover. Fortunately appointee daughter already had her wisdom teeth removed in 2008 so that's a none issue for us.

She didn't like the line that she couldn't inprocess with her contacts. She wanted to take them out and throw them away when she got to the glasses part of the day. Oh well!
