Worried

Mom of a two time applicant here....one who will graduate this year, (fingers crossed!!)

If you REALLY want it....and by really I mean would move heaven and earth to go to USCGA to become a commissioned officer in the CG, then by all means REAPPLY! Sounds easy, right? Wrong! Reapply BUT, do all the right things in the interim. Some may say to go to a military prep program, or your state U, but from our experience the local CC was just fine. Just fine in that it offered high level English, Math and Science Classes, (which he passed with high marks) and the opportunity to try and excel in a new sport (which we think helped the second time around....a call from coach to coach is never a bad thing ) Additionally, look at your SAT/ACT scores and retake if you feel they were lacking. It shows determination and interest for a college freshman to sit in a classroom of high school students and retake the SAT/ACT. Stay involved in your community, and show that you are continually honing your leadership skills as well. Lots to do in a relatively short time...remember applications for college freshman don't go in until after first semester grades are posted, usually near the end of Dec/early Jan.

Was it easy? Nope. Was it worth it? Yep. Did it help him long-term? I think so...the maturity of an extra year is always a good thing. Of course the CGA ride was/is still a tenuous and bumpy journey no matter if you come right out of high school, or from somewhere else in your educational journey.

Best of luck. :thumb:
