WOULD Have Received Nomination?

Just got a letter from Senator Casey today (PA).

It states that the board was incredibly impressed with my credentials and WOULD have been given a nomination if I did not already have one from my Congressman (Todd Platts (now Scott Perry, PA 19 (which has just been redistricted to PA 04)). Congressman Platts gave me a nomination to USNA, USMA, and USAFA.

I just wanted to know if this should be good or bad. Should I take this as a good sign considering I would have been one of the 10 kids out of hundreds to receive a nomination? Or do you guys think there were some kids that already had nominations that received one from Senator Casey? I'm just a bit confused.

Still haven't heard from Senator Toomey yet. Also, I do have a Presidential to all three as well.

Not seeing how it matters either way. You needed a nomination for admission and you have one...Because you have a nomination, he is able to use a slot (one of ten on his competitive slate) that he may have given to you to another candidate who did not have a nomination, thereby increasing the total number of Pennsylvanians eligible at each Academy. He wrote a nice letter, letting you know the panel thought highly of you and your accomplishments thus far. Take it at face value and start working out. Sounds like you have quite a few options and decisions to make.

MOCs from a state sometimes coordinate amongst themselves so they do not nominate the same candidate more than once - that way, they can nominate a larger number of candidates.

And in some competitive states/districts, they will not give noms to more than one service academy. So you have to be very careful about attempts to game the nom process in your 1st, 2nd, 3rd choices.
