What are the rules regarding watches at USNA? Are personal ones taken during PS? Are they issued? I assume upper class and plebes can wear their own during the ac. year.

Can't use them during Plebe Summer, but anytime after that is fine. They are not issued. If you bring your own, they'll take it for the summer and you'll get it back at the end of PS.

GoNavy's got it. Worst thing about PS in my opinion was not having a watch.
During the Ac Year you can wear whatever sort of watch you want, as long as its a muted color. Black/Gray/Navy are good, but fluorescent orange is not. Gold and Silver are also ok.

I would suggest you NOT invest big bucks for the super duper got every dial and feature watch. They will go through a lot of wear and tear, mud, swamp water, sand, etc. Get something serviceable and rugged, that you can replace later from one of the overseas exchanges at a great price.

Best to get a black watch. "Faddish" is such a vague word.

just get a watch that tells you the time, date, and a timer for timed runs
