You might not expect this at USAFA

Great Idea. Alas, he won’t be home again before next Thanksgiving.

The Combat Shooting team is trying to book a spring break contest and all 3 summer tours will be booked. He was picked to go on an Olmsted trip.

Although I could put the jar out now that he infected his little brother. But I suspect after $3 LB will be cured. I need the big bucks from Cadet Smarty Pants.
:yllol:

One of my cadets got an XBox360 game for Christmas. Alas, Santa doesn't really read labels regarding video games and didn't realize that the characters in the video games also suffered from Air Force Talking. I charged for the characters' bad mouths too. Might buy me a condo if this keeps up! haha

E-470 is a no money toll road. You need a Colorado transponder to use road. Some rental car companies charge daily fees if transponder is used on rental car. I was charged $10 per day for 5 days and tolls for the road. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. BEWARE!

This is odd. They charge by the license plate. I would get the bill for my TX plates at less than $5.

Again, I'm not saying it ain't expensive (it is!). For those days where a blizzard comes in a I-25 is stopped, it might be the only way to the airport on time! It's useful when I-25 is bad.

For the folks that rent cars at Denver the bill is receive thru rental car company via your credit card. I not sure how this is handle for people driving their own cars.

Up until two years ago you either had to have a transponder, or stop and pay cash. Since then, they have removed the toll booths, and all vehicles get their license plate read as they pass the checkpoint, and a bill comes in the mail to the registered owner of the vehicle. Our son has a transponder and it is linked to his credit card so tolls are paid automatically. We just get a bill in the mail for our vehicles after we are out there. Sometimes the bill can take quite a while to arrive. I just got ours and paid it from Parent's Weekend.

I think that the speed and convenience of the I470 bypass are worth cost of the toll.

It wasn't worth the additional charge tack on by the rental car companies. Car renters out of Denver beware of the additional fees for using the the road. This is something new parents may not be aware.

Speak of the devil, my son's bill just came in today's mail for charges in Denver in September. Guess it takes them a while to get the bills out of state.

I made the trip to Acceptance Day and am very glad I made the investment. It's a big deal as your Basic becomes a full fledged cadet (albeit a 4th class cadet). There's a great "pre-game show" before the parade with gliders, parachutes, jets, the falcon (yes, it flew away just like at the Independence Bowl!) before the acceptance parade. This is the same parade formation they'll march in at their graduation parade in 4 years. There's time for pictures and picnics afterwards. If you're going bring along extra food and drinks for your cadet's classmates who don't have parents visiting. It was a blast!

I wanted to also make mention of a great opportunity for 4th class cadets - The USAFA Drum & Bugle Corps. Our son joined this year and while it is a huge time commitment he had a blast traveling to all the football games. He went to Oklahoma, Dallas, San Diego, New York City, Las Vegas and Shreveport for the Independence Bowl. While my son played trumpet in high school it's not critical. Heck, one of the euphonium players was a former violinist in high school! D&B is a great way for a C4C to get away from "the hill" and have fun. If anyone wants more info on this great opportunity drop me a PM.
