fencersmother started a thread with a similar title in the USAFA section and it has been really interesting to read the posts...I would love it if West Point parents (cadets, alumni, etc.) would share their thoughts!

As a parent of a candidate I don't have input to start the thread..just thought I'd throw it out there for those of you who are in the know!

Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts.

Not sure what you asking, but my personal experience, going to a regular college one year, attending WP, then graduating, West Point is like any other school.

Whatever happens at West Point, it won't be unique to West Point and when bad things happens it is more about the person not the system.

OK, I read some of the USAFA thread and I see where you want this to go...

You might not expect that cadets have laundry service, but they do! :thumb:

You might not expect them to be slobs when they come home to visit (after keeping rooms straight for inspections), but they will be!

You might not expect they can file their own tax return and obtain absentee ballots, but they can! :shake:

You might not expect to miss them so much after several years of this...but you will.

You might not expect that there are some very girly girls here...but there are
You might not expect that young adults end up begging for naps...but they do
You might not expect that someone could get oddly excited over corn chowder...but we do

Not sure about USMA, but at USNA, Plebes do not "rate" having naps

mom3boys: all of your list applies to Mids, too!

    To add to the list:
you might not expect your Mid/Cadet would want to just hang out at home "doing nothing" during leave, but they (often) do
