Your son/daughter goes where???

After hearing about the fees for Webguy and the Parent's Club, my Mom turns to Dad and goes "well, they're going to get her tuition out of us one way or another, aren't they?"
Oh, Momma *shakes head slowly*

Tell your mom it comes from the 'I'm not paying for college' fund.

You should remind her about getting season tickets to the football games too!

and those gift shop purchases and squadron t-shirts on parents weekend...HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS (cause you have to buy for grandma, grandpa, lil sis, big sis, lil bro, big bro, big sis' boyfriend... the list is endless)

Lol well they never set aside a college fund for me, which is part of the reason I started considering USAFA (I stuck with it for very different reasons, of coarse!). Dad already bought an AF streamer for our flag to put out when I leave.....Mom may just have to watch him to make sure he doesn't go too overboard an AF souvenirs and such hahaha! Mom has an Army Mom Shirt, and Army Wife shirt, now she needs an Air Force Mom shirt lol!

Good luck with that. I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on the AFA Hockey Jersey I saw when I was up there last. Didn't want to get it until after Prep, you know the whole jinxing thing.

Lol, why is it always the dads who go nuts with the souvenirs?
Good decision, though! Wouldn't want to jinx anything!

Now in son's second year, so I've heard quite a bit. When asked what my son is doing, I usually say he is going to school in Colorado, when asked which one, I will say Air Force. People either know what it is or if confused, I just say Air Force is sending him to college at their campus in Colorado Springs, and he hopes to commission as an officer on graduation. We all burst with pride at the things our kids accomplish, but I always feel like these questions are a great opportunity to us to 1) positively promote the service academies as a college choice FOR KIDS WHO WANT TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY, and 2) promote the Air Force as a whole, whether they be students first or enlisted. Our neighbor, in my son's high school graduating class, left for PJ training about the same time my son left for BCT. What am impressive young man, and I would never want to respond in a way that makes my son sound "special" although he is sure special to me!

That's awesome how respectful you are of everyone in the service! I know PJ training probably comes with challenges cadets would never face in BCT and the other way around. I agree with you that anyone serving in any aspect in our military is awesome and deserves recognition!

Heads up for the future 19ers (and maybe some others that don't know of it), there is a sale around the beginning of April at the Visitor's Center every year where everything (yes, EVERYTHING) in the store is $20.15, .16, etc. Be wary of telling your mom, though- she will make you buy the whole store like mine did.

Good to know! I'm going to be down in the area next weekend! Might stop by :)

Unfortunately it's only one day of the year every year, so you have to keep an eye out for it. So you may have to wait for those good prices, but it's totally worth it! I purchased two jerseys and three sweatshirts for my family this year, and the total was only $100.75!

WHAT?!?!?! This is the first I've heard about something like this! I'm local and been there couple times of the year showing out of town family members before my DS even went there and I never caught this sale. Thanks a ton for the heads up.

As A grad I semi ashamedly have to admit that post graduation I didn't always have the time or the energy to give appropriate responses to those who weren't getting it. In response to where did you go to school I've been known to reply--I didn't, but I was institutionalized for 4 years. Another less caustic answer was--The University of Science And Fine Arts; a small public school in Colorado. Funny part of this answer is how easily accepted it was. And before the bashing begins--I acknowledge the occasional failures on my part as an ambassador. Usually, I did much better.

That's funny!
My DD, who's still there of course, answers with "I go to school in Colorado."
It's funny how many people don't ask "where in Colorado?"

I wouldn't worry about it you've earned the right to give an off response. However, me as a dad shouldn't get as irritated as I do when I run into the some of the rougher responses but I do have fun give bad responses :shake:

Recently had an older friend state after hearing our DD had put in her admissions paperwork,
You really have to have brains to go there!...(durp)
**DD has a 4.35 in HS and a 3.65 in College (12.5 units left to get her AA)**
