Default VMI STP question

I know that the Rats-to-be will issued their boots and low quarters, but I didn't see any mention of them needing a particular kind/color of socks for STP. I know that they will need black dress socks and black boot socks for the fall, but what do the kids typically wear during STP? Thanks.

Socks during STP won't be a bone of contention.
I think that they say shirts with collars and slacks or dress shorts for class and messhall, but basically all they are going to really enforce is decent looking shorts and sleeves on your shirts- decent Tshirts without really obnoxious logos/printing on them) will fly but if you want to be safe- have some polo/golf type shirts and plenty of PT gear. No "slippahs" as they say in Hawaii (shower shoes).

Thanks Bruno! I was kind of wondering what the others tend to wear (sock-wise) so that DS won't stick out like a sore thumb. I guess it's just a mom thing.

Keep in mind that STP really is not a military experience. It's summer school with some mandatory PT sessions but it's not at all adversative. There will be some upper class counselors but beyond that- there will be no upperclassmen around. It really will be a good chance for your son to get a hard class out of the way and learn his way around post, meet his fellow future Rats and enjoy Lexington (which is a better little town than it get's credit for from Cadets!)

You may want to include boot socks.. Black high socks. DS did mention that they were told when to wear them with the issued shoes and boots along with their shorts on occasion and they looked like idiots..but they ALL looked like idiots together..

Yeah, that's what I heard! I know he has to have the black boot socks for the fall, but can he wear the boot socks he has now? They're really good quality but not black - we have yet to get those. Do you know if most of the kids wore black dress socks with their low quarters? Thanks!

my information may be dated, since my son attended STP 3 years ago - but when they issued his shoes and boots, he also received a pair of the socks for each to use. Maybe that is really not done - so to be safe yes I would send with him a pair or two of the black dress sock and boot socks. As you know the weights are different and need the correct one. These socks can just be used early for STP since he will need them for august.
My son's summer they did wear those shoes alot - so it really becomes important. larry's mom
