Default Okay, I'm an "Applicant*", now what?

HELLO ALL! This forum is awesome. Already, I can see that this will be a powerful resource throughout my application process. Thanks in advance!

So, for my FIRST post on here, I'm looking to find an answer to a question that could probably be found elsewhere, but I figured I'd go to the experts first!

On my USAFA Online Application Status Page, it has the following information:
" Your Status: Applicant* (your application is under consideration)
Your application is: Competitive "

I've been assigned a USAFA Counselor, and also a local lisasion officer.

My question is simply, What's next? I know it is early, but I'm anxious to get the process going ASAP, so that I can get my medical stuff completed (I may have something to iron out, hopefully it won't be too much of an issue, though).

Should I expect something in the mail (application packet or something)? and When? Or should I just keep an eye on my status page? It's only been 2 weeks since I originally "opened a file" with USAFA. I guess I'm just trying to stay on top of this, so WHAT'S NEXT!?

Thanks!

Do whatever you have time for at this point.(I'm guessing you're probably still in school). You can never start too early. Start working on your essays, get teachers to fill out the required evaluations, train for the CFA, and start working on finishing those nomination packets for your senators, congressman,VP, and presidential if you qualify. It's all a very tedious process and the earlier you finish the better. I advise trying to finish it by the end of the summer. Good luck!

USAFA Hopeful has the best advice: get it done over summer.

Try to let your teachers know about the evaluations before school is out as it may be difficult to contact them over the summer and they are usually pretty busy at the start of the school year.

Good luck!

yes, don't be afraid to take your time when writing/filling out the information. get a head start on the nomination applications. are you going to summer seminar? about mid summer you should receive DODMERB information in the mail. and you'll be hearing off and on from the academy. have you met your ALO? TALK TO HE/SHE ASAP!!!

1. Get ready for the CFA.

2. Keep an eye on your congressmen/women. They should be coming out with the nomination packet for next year pretty soon.

3. I highly reccommend writing a general "Why I want to go to USAFA/Why I want to join the AF" essay. All of my nom packets required one.

4. Talk to people in the AF, from the Academy, your ALO. Don't be afraid to email your admissions counselor and ALO with questions. The more informed you are going into interviews for the application the better. There was once or twice someone said "I'm sure you've probably heard about [blank]" and I went "uhhhhh...?"

5. Chill out until summer. Keep your grades up. Stay active in different activities/organizations.

Until they post the canidate kit online (July I think) there's not much else you can do. Good luck with your app!

yep, to back up what everyone else said. keep an eye on your congressmen and senators. work out. keep your grades up. look for those teacher recommendations.. work out. and TALK to people.. this forum is really good for that. but nothing can take the place of your ALO or admissions counselor, since they (your alo, really) have an impact on your admission

wow, 2014 already? i'm not even done being a four degree! geez

Haha. Yes, 2014. I do feel this is pretty early, but since I've already started, I wanted to just see what people on here had to say.
Anyways,
-Yes, still in school.
-No, not attending SS. Didn't apply - missed deadline.
-Yes, attended informational meeting hosted by congressman's staff regarding nomination process and the academies in general and received nomination application packet.

So I shouldnt expect anything in the mail from the academy until summer?

I would stress train for that CFA. Don't take it until you are close to maxing it.

Start your essays, but make sure you ask the ALO for their input, they are also a key part of the equation, since their rec is a part of your WCS.

GOOD LUCK
