Wish current grad students were on the invite list. Not so much for me but wouldn't mind having an opportunity for my wife to get all glammed up and take her dancing. Opportunities don't present themself too often when you're in your 50s.

This is the senior class formal dance where the 1st class mids get their class rings. It's a formal dance in midtown Manhattan - at least since DS has been at KP it's been held at Gotham Hall, an event facility. (It's an old bank building - absolutely gorgeous.) Their dates wear the rings on a ribbon. At the appointed hour, they are called to a bowl of water containing water from all seven seas, the ring is dipped in the water, and placed on the mids' hands. (We've always wondered about the seven seas legend and thought that the water really came from either the Hudson River or the Long Island Sound..) Up to this point, they haven't been in possession of their rings. (Trust me - we've had the charge go through on our credit card but we haven't seen what we paid for).

The rings are huge and each class designs their own ring. During their 3rd class year, at least for my B splitter, they pick out their style, color of stone, etc. And pay for it. They can also buy a smaller ring for themselves when they are working. The big ones are gorgeous, too.
When they are ashore and hit the bars, I hear that they knock their rings on the bar and people who know the sound, know "where the sound comes from". Ask you mid if he/she knows how the design process is coming along.

I'm not above creating a revolution! I'm old enough to remember those turbulent times of the 1960's... Kinda fun even though I was only in grade school
