thanks Pima & CC-both helpful answers.

Pima: In the parent part of the interview with BGO DH did ask about AD life again and braching marines. Just so DS could hear it one more time. (of course than DH then asked BGO if plebe summer was after plebe year…DS’s jaw started ticking but he kept a flat affect. We sure heard about it later though….ooooops)-talk about not knowing the lingo...

Also, though we mean something like: "Here is my opinion and why I feel this way, but it is your life, and I will support you no matter what you decide" instead we are from Chicago, so we like to say "that's stupid, ya know why????"

I sent him the links-mr teenage know-it-all will read links sent to his email inbox.

CC: I wish you hadn't said: "The only exception to this, is if your son receives a "LOA" "Letter of ASSURANCE". That ASSURES the individual that IF they complete their application, and IF they are 100% qualified, and IF they receive a nomination, then they are ASSURED of receiving an appointment." because they are rare but that sure would make the nomination preference ranking that much easier.

he is 100% done with all parts of every application to the SAs. He is holding off sending in his MOC nomination apps until two weeks before they are due to give him time to mull the order over. Or until divine intervention, a sign from god, a french fry shaped like a tank, or the song Brandy,You're a Fine Girl plays on the radio three times in a row.

Vista, your DH's comment made me laugh because it reminded me of Bullet's O-5 (AIR FORCE) pin on ceremony which was given by Gen. Gould (now AFA Supe). His father was ill, and Gen. Gould called them personally earlier that day to send his best wishes for a speedy recovery. Bullet's Dad said, well when he makes Gen in the ARMY he was not going to miss that promotion!

Gould assured his parents that when Bullet made Gen. in the ARMY he was not going to miss that ceremony either. The joke went up and over my FIL's head. Of course at the ceremony when he told this story the whole room busted out in laughter.

Parents will always embarrass their kids no matter what their age.

Back on topic. It is also wise to wait until about 2 weeks out so you can have the most up to date information on that application.

One suggestion I would give is buy a binder for all of his paperwork. Copy everything because G forbid you only save it on your computer and it crashes you are SOL. We kept everything on the computer and hard copies. I would also spend the money to send the application registered mail, signature required. This way you know they got it, and you know who signed for it. A few days later, contact that person and double check to make sure the packet is complete and he is ready to go. Every yr. there are posts about candidates calling the night before and finding out that something is missing making them have to run to Fed Ex to overnight it. You don't want to be in that position, just for the fact of stressing out before the real stressing starts.
