Default How they get his number?

I'm not sure i've seen this in historical threads, but if its there I apologize.

Son is applying to two academies. Is a candidate. Have submitted transcripts and academic information, test scores, personal information/statement/activities, passed Medical exam, and has been contacted by coaches at both (one by phone, the other by email).

Working on the nominations. One senator from our state has an online application which we've completed, the other (as well as the MOC) want everything submitted by mail. We have not sent anything in to them because we are waiting for the letters of recommendation from his teachers to be completed (it is still summer here!).

Without us having contacted the MOC, how the heck did their office get our number and call our son? They wanted to confirm he was applying. Do the academies routinely information about who is applying to MOC? This seems like a lot of work, especially if some don't complete their applications. Is there any other information sharing going on? Because this is new to us, it seemed a little wierd, but perhaps its the norm?

Thanks for the info.

Sorry, don't know the answer to this one. Only guess is that it has something to do with his being a recruited athlete. However, that's ONLY a guess.

SAs do notify MOC offices about LOAs. But it seems a bit early for that and, even then, I've not know the MOCs to contact the candidates directly -- at least around these parts.

A lot depends on the state. Some LOD's (Boss of the ALO and in charge of the entire state) are very close to the MOC's and nomination boards. They will provide the MOC's with a list of individuals who are on the "Candidate" list. Some states, like ours, which is the lowest population in the entire country, do a lot to make sure young people are aware of the different academies. It's not uncommon for us to only have about 16 "Qualified Applicants" for the air force academy in the ENTIRE STATE. So our LOD and ALO's are very involved with the process.

But I am only guess that the LOD presented a list of candidates.

For some of the SAs, not sure if it applies to all, the MOCs are tied into the admissions candidate computer data system and automatically receive certain information, primarily the status of the application.

Ok, so there is information sharing, thanks. That was my initial thought, but we are in a high population state (and a very competitive district with no shortage of applicants) so I dismissed it because of the huge amount of work it must be to contact all those applicants. I guess that is why there is office staff!

Good luck to all and thanks.
