Default color vision deficiency

My DS received a notice of disqualification to the Naval Academy for a Color Vision deficiency. I thought we would get a re-med for a Farnsworth Lantern test. My DS called DoDMERB and was told as of 9/1/12 they no longer gave color vision re-meds and he would have to get a waiver. I would have thought we would have gotten a re-med when we got one for his allergies in August but we did not. We got the re-med for allergies cleared up, now they are saying he is disqualified for color vision. Should we get the Farnsworth Lantern test on our own? Or does anyone else have other recommendations?

Call DODMERB and Ask them first what test they want you to take for the waiver process
before you go rouge and submit something they do not accept. Your child should be
considered "commissionable" even though they are colorblind. They may not be able to fly or sail on a ship or sub but they can do all kinds of duty.

DoDMerb does not waiver, the service academy starts the waiver process. It will be the service academy who initiates the whole process and will determine what, if anything you can do. You might start with your son's admissions counselor and they maybe able to provide you with someone you can contact.
