Default Teacher Recommendations ROTC/USNA?

I am applying to both NROTC and USNA. I have done everything for ROTC and they have teacher letters of recommendation. Somewhere i THINK I read that USNA and ROTC will share information about candidates. Does anyone know if they do? and especially if they do with teacher letters? I have my teacher information in my CIS but it says it is still waiting!

Several things you have to be careful about with regards to teacher recommendations:

1) Make sure you entered the teacher's email address correctly in the Candidate Information System. One small typo and the teacher will never get the required information from the academy in order to submit the recommendation.

2) Make sure the teacher checks their email address. Some teachers do not check their email very frequently, or, are very poor at managing it.

3) Make sure the academy's email to your teacher did not end up in their spam folder. That happens on occasion.

4) Make sure you tell your teacher to expect to be contacted by the academy and to look for the email when it comes.

5) If a reasonable amount of time has gone by and your teacher claims that they have not received the academy's email - I would call the Admissions Office and have them resend it. That might also be a good time to make sure you entered their email address correctly into the Candidate Information System. It's no big deal to resend it. We had to do that with my sons' baseball coach who conducted their CFA. He was notoriously bad at managing his email. He insisted that he had never received an email (but he had). The academy resent it and everything was fine.

USNA and ROTC do not "share information" so be sure that the teachers providing recommendations on your behalf reply to both entities. The only thing that was used for both ROTC and USNA in my son's case was the DodMERB result. Good luck

I think in theory USNA and NROTC do share information. From the USNA Candidate Application page under the section "Required Application Documents" it says:
"If you are also applying for an NROTC scholarship, some of the information you have submitted for that program may qualify and be used as completed USNA application documents. Additionally, some USNA application documents may be used to complete NROTC application elements."
However, it proved to be faster and simpler for my son to request that his teachers submit the recommendations to USNA and NROTC separately, even though it was more work for the teachers. (Thank you Teachers! )

Here's the scoop.
BGO information system use to indicate only USNA applicants. Now we also receive names on BGIS for those who may only be applying for NROTC.
We make a contact call and determine what their goals are and also share information about USNA.
As far as the two processes "sharing" information, it appears that the only information carried between the two applications are things like name, address, school, etc. (Your base information)
You will have to complete the essay and forward recommendations, transcripts, etc. as well as the documents specific to the NROTC application process. You will also have to interview with one of the officers in your area. (You'll all be pros at interviewing by the end of this process!) Many of you will just have to tweek your essay and remember to insert NROTC in place of USNA :) Teachers too, often use the same recommendation, PLEASE remind them there is a difference between NROTC and USNA. (you wouldn't believe the essays seen that were intended for USNA but state, USMA is my #1 choice; oops)
DoDMERB will apply once you have RECEIVED notification that you are awarded a scholarship.

Just a quick question on the above post - does that go for teacher's "errors" as well? My son got all his letters of recommendation, but the academies aren't as well known here in Wisconsin as in other places. Although he tried to give very detailed information to the people who would be writing them, his soccer coach (who I'm fairly certain has never heard of an academy) put "The Service Academy" in all his recommendations, as in "I highly recommend XX for the Service Academy because" (as opposed to "a service academy" or "the Naval Academy"). I hate to have him rewrite them - these are the ones that are going to the MOC's. Would that be held against my son, or would they assume it was just written by someone who wasn't totally clued in? Would you ask the coach to re-do them? Or am I just being overly picky? Thanks!

^^^

I would certainly go back and ask that your letter be written specifically for the Naval Academy. I know that you might think it would be rude, but you never know how a generic statement of "a service academy" might be seen to the board members. Since they know many students/candidates apply to multiple service acadmies it might come across as "lazy" in writing generic letter recommendations for each academy. of course this is just my opinion. If USNA is where your son really wants to go, I would certainly go back to the soccer coach and ask that he write it specifically for USNA.

most likely the coach has the letter saved on the computer somewhere so it would be an easy and quick fix. Don't feel bad, you want to give your son the best possible chance to get in :)

I asked this question some weeks earlier, and was answered by the Academy that they will not use the NROTC teacher evaluations for the Naval Academy Teacher Recommendations. I know, bummer.
