Default A thread about a USNA 2017 hopeful, posted cause the website lady told him to.

Hey y'all! My name is machdude (don't ask) and I (as you may have guessed) am a candidate for the USNA Class of '17!

Newbies posting threads is apparently LIKE TOTALLY AWESOME, so here goes.

My mother is a few scales short of a mermaid, and my father is no king neptune (only military experience in my family is my grandpas, both army). So I guess my extreme desire for a life of naval service stems from all the star trek and JAG reruns I've been watching since I could talk. (yes, my desire to serve has matured beyond that of television shows by now)

Anyway, I am now a President of my Senior class, Eagle scout candidate, 2nd term XC co captain, and all around ladies man (not really). I like long walks on the beac- whoops, I mean my highest ACT score is a 29: 35 ENG, 24 MATH (and another one with 34 and 25, respectively). Soooo I guess I'm smarter than your average reclining chair.

Ok, so more numbers:
My school has 330 students enrolled, w/ around 85 in my class (As of end of Jr year, I'm around 15th [school doesn't rank because of size]) YES I am WORKING ON THAT

Anyway, I hold no state titles, or any other athletic titles for that matter. But I am a two time XC captain, so I guess that's cool.

In da sprung I pole vault, more for the fun of it than anything else (no awards).

Also I'm starting up with something called the Saint Louis Military Officer Support Foundation (yay now you know where I live!). So I'll be like... workin out and learning... skills... n stuff.

Anyway, my cfa has me down for 9 PUs 45 SUs 29 PUs and a 7:30 mile (yes, I am a two time XC captain, why do you ask?)

As of today, I have 32 PUs, 70 SUs, and a 6:36 mile. yay for improvement.

As for NOMs, I'm workin' on it (shrugs).

I could write more, but I guess people can ask if they actually find this thread interesting, honestly I just wrote it to take a break from math homework...

OK IM GON' END THE THREAD NOW CAUSE I SHOULD PROLLY BE WORKING ON SUMMERSCHOOL STUFF (OH BTW I'M ALSO IN SUMMERSCHOOL!!!) KTHANKSBYEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm assuming your a guy because you put dude in your title, 32 push ups is not going to meet the minimums. Also, I don't think a lot of the service academy graduates are going to take overly well to your style of posting. But you have very good ACT scores (do you mean 35, 34 or 35, 24 because 24 is near the minimum but 35 is exceptional).

LOL. So you have discovered Reef Points. Good.

Try the SATs.

I really need to hit the study guides and take the ACT again, 25M won't help you very much. As mentioned above you should try the SAT's as well.

Keep working out, you don't have a lot of time to improve your CFA scores, 32 PU's is very low, work on those a lot. Keep running, try to get you mile time into the 5's

You have some good leadership listed.

You did not list your GPA, your class ranking is in about the 18% area, there is not much you can do about either the GPA or ranking since your already a senior. So work on what you can improve. The problem you will run up against is that you will be competing with other applicants that are "Smarter then all the furniture in the house", not just the Recliner.

It was an entertaining post, one tip, don't be as entertaining when you have your interview and when you apply for your nominations.

Best of luck to you, do you have a plan B, such as NROTC, as a back up. It's best to keep a plan B on the back burner.

This is EXACTLY how I'd like EVERY "how do I stack up" post started.

Two thumbs up. It was entertaining because the side comments are what think when I read the typical dry, boring "how do I stack up" posts.

It keeping with LITS policy, I won't comment on how you actually stack up though. All of that can be done through deduction....

Must still be the summer doldrums, if a month old intro gets hot.

LITS, are you going to be referring to yourself in the third person? It's usually not a good sign.

Thanks for the advice guys... I like to mix things up a bit occasionally (as you may have guessed), but I'm still hangin' tough. I haven't tested myself lately, but I've been running pretty much nonstop since XC started (herp derp), so that's probably down in the low sixes by now.
As for standardized testing, I have my eyes set on the Oct ACT (looking at SATs as well).
I'm probably (wink) going to be track captain this season, so there's that.

Beyond that... well I'll be talking to coach about the CFA soon, and I plan on having all of my materials in by the time I get my Eagle (~December)
