North Georgia College and State University

Hey everyone

As some of you may know, due to an accute illness that occured before Arrival Day (that failed to resolve itself before arrival day) I was unable to attend Norwich University this year.

Although I have a great chance or re-admittance,and still want to attend Norwich, my parents also want me to have a back up school to apply to in case something happens in which I wasn't reaccepted or I was unable to attend.

Im looking into applying to North Georgia College and State and I was wondering if someone could fill me in a little of what their corps is like.

From the research Ive done, it seems to be very different from Norwich, the corps and the atmosphere.

I was a psychology major at Norwich, and I want to continue to pursue that major.

Any comments and personal stories greatly appreciated.

My DS loves the school. He also visited Norwich and really liked it but in the end North Georgia was his final choice. He absolutely loves the school. He is really busy there. If you go to North Georgia I recommend joining some college clubs when you get to campus. That's what DS did and he has many new friends. As of Jan 01, 2013 the official name of the school will be The University of North Georgia. They have opportunities to visit and I recommend that you do this to make sure you want to go here. Just like its cold in Vermont it is super hot in Ga. but I suppose winter is somewhat similar but probably not as harsh as Vt. Also, if accepted into the Corp of Cadets you get IN-STATE TUITION! As I stated earlier my son chose UNG over Norwich, VMI, The Citadel, and a few other colleges so visit and that should help you know for sure if UNG is right for you.

I was wondering if you would happen to know why your son ended up choosing North Georgia, say, over Norwich?

and maybe some of the bigger differences between North Georgia and Norwich?

One big reason that my son chose North Georgia was that he received in state tuition for being in the corp of cadets. You see we do not live in Ga but all corp of cadets get in state tuition. Also he has an opportunity to join the Natl Guard and serve in a unit on campus with the partnership program they have. So DS is going to actually be able to pay for his tuition himself w/o any student loans. Also, DS gets the best of both worlds in ref to being involved with the corp of cadets and also with regular students. Its a good mix that DS likes and the school is very pro military as it is officially The Military College of Georgia. Another plus is the town. Dahlonega is safe. UNG is listed as one of the safest campuses. The town rolls right up to the side of the university so there is plenty to do and no need for a car unless you really just want to have one on campus. DS took his car but told me he has only driven twice since he has been at school. The town is awesome. But like I said you gotta visit to know what I mean. As for academics DS is a Political Science major. He is very busy with very little down time. But he told me he loves the school. Lastly, show up in shape. DS said 8 people quit the first week during FROG week. After FROG week you are recognized as a cadet. So tough it out and you will be happy you did. DS does PT 3x a week and is on the club wrestling team too. He also joined an organization on campus called the Chaplain Corp which he enjoys. I hope this little bit of info helps.

This is why you should choose UNG, as long as you're okay with Army ROTC. Norwich is cold and there is nothing to do here. All anyone does here is bring alcohol on campus and drink on the weekends. Plus the winters are harsh. I probably would have gone to UNG if they had had AFROTC
