Default The CFA basketball throw

I recently came back from a training session for the CFA. I was practicing the basketball throw for the first time. 75 feet was my best. I throw discus in track and field, 120ft pr, but throwing a basketball seems a lot different. I am wondering if 100ft + throws are possible, and if so, how frequent they occur. I am confident my throws will improve as I continue training for it. I plan on taking the CFA in a couple weeks. The basketball throw is my lowest score of all:
Basketball throw: 75ft
Pull ups:18
Shuttle Run: 7.9s
Sit ups:95
Push ups: 75
Mile run: 5:39s
I would like to know if anyone has ever achieved a 100ft+ throw. Any tips they can give me would be appreciated.

Don't know but can tell you that USNA doesn't really care about the Bball throw, as compared to the other events. It is important for either USMA or USAFA -- not sure which.

USMA is really the only academy that cares. My BGO told me last year he had a kid get DQed for USMA for a 49ft throw but USNA let him in. But since the max score is 102ft, I'm sure 100+ is possible, although I would assume only people with hands big enough to palm a ball and a decent amount of arm strength could do this.

What about USMMA? Do they care much for the CFA? I know the CFA isn't a grand factor for admission, but I want to improve my chances wherever I can. USMMA is my first choice.

When I was at NASS, a kid in my squad told me he was at USMA's summer program, and the 10 year old son of the director could max the bball throw. I think it's more technique than anything.

It's great to want to improve. However, for USNA, your score on the throw is great. Better than most and USNA doesn't really care.

I can't speak for the other SAs. However, it's a very good score and thus I think you'll be fine with this for any SA.

Most likely USMA; the Point required the throw back in the 60's.

Default B Throw

My DD threw around 50ft. Small hands a definite disadvantage. However, she can hurl a softball from the outfield to home plate with ease. And she can pitch a softball around 60mph. Unfortunately, that stuff doesn't count.

Maybe the should have the kids hurl a grenade (fake). That would be a real test.

I've been practicing, and it seems my throw has gained 5 feet, my throw is now 80ft.

Yes, I heard from somewhere that the BB throw was for the purpose of determining how far one could throw a grenade. Funny actually.

The CFA is such a small part of your WPM (Whole Person Multiple) that your time would be far better spent in shoring up any academic shortcomings you may have.

Your CFA times are adequate. That's all you really need. The CFA's purpose is mostly to weed out people who may have physical maladies or are extremely out-of-shape.
