Default Graduation dates announced for 2012 & 2013

The dates have been finalized for graduation and commissioning for classes of 2012 and 2013.

Quote from HometownAnnapolis.com

"Academy spokeswoman Jennifer Erickson said superintendent, Vice Adm. Jeffrey Fowler, approved the long-range schedule change late last semester.

She said that in 2012, the Blue Angels are slated to perform the same day the plebes tentatively are scheduled to undergo the annual tradition of climbing the Herndon Monument."

Does that mean Herndon will also be moved?

If Blue Angels will be flying on Sat and Sun, then yes Herndon will be moving. I wonder if they are changing to Commissioning Weekend instead of Commissioning Week. If plebe familes and firstie families are all in town, how does this help alleviate congestion in the area? How does moving commissioning from Friday before a holiday weekend to a Tuesday after the holiday weekend really help with "This revised timeline should allow us to better determine eligibility for advancement, graduation/commissioning, and summer school and summer training."? Especially if the weekend has a full schedule of events. 2011/2012 will also be the year they go back to 36 companies...lots of changes coming. Semper Gumby

Going back to 36 companies? That's the first time I heard that. I'm not sure how the Mids are going to like that, I can imagine many will not be too thrilled about getting separated from their company buddies.

Semper Gumby indeed!

My son's State Level BGO had mentioned that at Academy Days back in Oct - but just had said it would be happening in the next few years.

Default what does that mean for class of 2014

Will they be split up their second year? How many companies are there now? Will that be traumatic?

There are 30 companies now. If they add companies, entire brigade is involved. There will need to be mids of each rank in all companies. Whether it is traumatic or not will depend on each mid. My son wouldn't mind too much if they changed everybody now, but I'm sure he will feel much different after he has been in the same company for 3 years. They aren't adding on to Bancroft, so I guess it means less mids per company.
