Yes.

Example: You cannot be color blind as an officer in the US Coast Guard, however there are certain rates in the Coast Guard which members can be color blind, like a Food Service Specialist.

I would cautiously say that the rest of the Armed Forces most likely have the same arrangement as the CG.

The guy best qualified to answer this is probably our resident Navy Pecker-Checker......er...... Corpsman.

Luckily I haven't been called out of retirement to do that!!

As for medical standards for enlisted vs. officers, the title of the instruction used for medical standards is "Medical Standards for Appointment, Enlistment or Induction in the Armed Forces". The standards are the same. Period. There is no difference. Period.

The only difference is refractive error (vision) and color vision. In certain enlisted MOS's and ratings you are required to have good color vision, others you don't. For officers in the sea services (Navy, CG) you are required to have good color vision, Army officers are required to be able to distinguish vivid red and green. AF doesn't care (again, certain specialties in both Army and AF require good color vision). All the the other standards are the same.

In certain cases obtaining a waiver is easier for enlistment than it is for appointment to a service academy or ROTC program. Other than that, the medical standards are the same.

Is that clear enough?? Feel free to ask questions if its not.
