Default Signal Officer Career

I'm new to the forum but I'm currently a sophomore Army ROTC cadet who will be contracting this coming fall. I'm really into computers, computer networking, and computer security. When I graduate and commission I hope to be a Signal officer. I think I've narrowed it down to Active Duty and National Guard. I worry about going Active and not getting the branch I want where as National Guard I have a little bit more control in terms of getting Signal. Could anyone give me any info on what life is like as a Signal officer, the training you do, the equipment you work with, etc. Anything will help, I appreciate your time! Thanks everyone!

Disclaimer: I'm a USMA cadet, not an officer.

The signal officers I have interacted with, especially within my IT major, have said a majority of their work as LTs revolved around making sure their unit's networks were always up and running. You'll be working with a lot of routers, switches, cables and other devices necessary to maintain your unit's connections.
