Forgotten and under appreciated, until they need us that is.

Semper Paratus

They could spiff up our uniforms a bit, although I always wore it with pride.

Sorry to all you Coasties, I should have included you. I have always heard that your bootcamp is the 2nd toughest. I don't think I have ever seen your dress uniform, at least I just don't remember it. Post a pic.
If it wasn't for a remark your football coach made when I took my son to visit the USCGA, he may have gone there. It really turned my son off, and I could not believe I was hearing him say something like what he said.
I love your mission and really do think you are under-appreciated.
From a Semper Fi to a Semper Paratus, thank you.

Your so right about the boot Camp, a lot of young people think it's going to be easy because it's the Coast Guard.....Surprise!!

Just think of our uniform like the AF uniform only darker Blue and with gold buttons. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would, computers sometimes confuse us old guys.

Sorry to hear about your conversation with the football coach at the USCGA, What on earth did he say.

My son had really long hair, he stopped cutting it in 8th grade, right after his mother left the family. His hair would stick out of his helmet, and everyone in the state knew him as the kid from ------- with the long hair. We are from a small state. Some time during his HS years, he decided he was going to let it keep growing and donate it to Locks of Love right before graduation. His hair got to be 27" long. The school held a fund raiser, to raffle off cutting his hair. That raised $ 2,000 which was donated to Brain Cancer Research, the State association for Retarded citizens (or whatever PC name they call it now) and the hair went to Locks of Love. There were news crews, the mayor was there, a well known politician was to attend, but he had a last minute meeting in DC. The well known politician is extremely well known.

In any case, we went into to meet the coach, the wrestling coach happened to see us and took us to the FB coaches office. He asked my son if he wrestled and my son said he did. He asked us to stop at his office when we were done with Coach George (I think that was his name).
When coach George walked in the office, the first thing out of his mouth was, "I don't usually recruit kids like you." I could not believe I heard that, and a moment later, I asked him if he does not normally recruit kids that were All-State FB players, starting at LB since 8th grade on a HS Varsity Team, All-Conference from 9th-12th grade, and academically qualified for all the service academies and being recruited by most Ivy League schools. The coach started back-pedalling and said he did not mean it as he said it. It really turned my son off, and I thought what an a------.
I really did like the CG mission and was hoping he would pick USCGA, but that trip sealed the deal.

Devildog,
Sounds like USCGA lost out on an outstanding kid.

I think he is where he is supposed to be. That coach has not been there for 13 years because he is a bad person. I tend to think of it as a misunderstanding.

Motivation and reenlistment posters. Love the Red Stripe and rifle and pistol badges!
Great pictures

Does anyone in the Coast Guard even wear those Whites anymore, I don't think I ever saw anyone wear them when I was in, I know I never had a set but that was many moons ago.

The second picture is a little dark, the CG Uniforms are much more Blue in person, like the AF only darker.

Now as for the other pictures....just got off the phone with a recruiter and dang it I'm to old to join back up again.
