Default IBOLC scare

DS gave us a big scare while at IBOLC this week. He was doing the 12 mile ruck march for time when he collasped about 200 meters from the end due to heat exhaustion. Body temp was 104. They rushed him to hospital where he spent two nights in ICU. Yesterday they transferred him to regular room. Haven't heard from him today but hoping he will be released. He was scheduled to start Ranger school Sept 9 but looks like that will get pushed back for awhile. He has always excelled at all physical activity so this caught us by suprise. Two others also went down due to the heat. Moral of the story is that even if you are a workout warrior the elements can still get to you.

Glad to hear he is recovering, best wishes to him. The heat at Benning can be torture sometimes, this time of year is the worse. The heat an humidity can take some getting used too, and still it can be hard to overcome. Let us all know how he is doing when he gets out of the hospital.

My son is at Aviation school at Ft. Rucker, their BOLC did not come close to what IBOLC does in the heat. He has completed ABOLC and is now getting ready for SERE School that starts Monday, 21 days. The guys will get their taste of heat and exhaustion this time.

Summer in the south can be brutal, again, best wishes to your son, I hope he recovers quickly.

Jcleppe thanks for the support. Just got an update they are going to keep him at the hospital for a 4th night. Waiting for his kidney levels to get back to normal. Good luck to your son at SERE. DS has a female friend from his ROTC Batt that is Rucker now going through pilot training as well.

Prayers going out for your son. Glad they were able to treat him quickly - heat injury is certainly a serious matter. Hope he gets another shot at Ranger School soon.

I strongly advise your DS to push off Ranger School for at least 6 months so he has a chance to completely recover. Pushing his body to the limit again so soon will only lead to more problems.
