Default DODMERB response time/eye exam questions

I found out that I received a 2-year NROTC scholarship for the fall 2013 semester at the very end of June. Due to some processing/paperwork/etc. my unit wanted to handle first and some incredibly slow response times therewithin, I was not allowed to start scheduling my DODMERB exams until late last week.

I finished my last appointment today. I have a pretty clean medical record and, except for poor vision/glasses, have no reason to suspect I'll be disqualified for anything. My main concern is with DODMERB's response time, as the fall semester is approaching and my pending scholarship is my means of paying tuition. I've heard of people hearing back anywhere from five days after everything is received to a month and a half, not including any remedial that may be necessary. Does anyone know how long that might take around this time of year?

A second question: although my vision is not spectacular, as stated above, I have reason to fear that my optical exam might have unfair results. The doctor was in a huge hurry to get me in and out, and didn't speak much English. I didn't completely understand the instructions on several of the tests he performed and I'm afraid that, because of this, my vision might be marked as much worse than it really is for DODMERB review. If I do happen to get a vision DQ, will I be able to appeal it and get retested?

I am by no means an expert, but just relating DS's experience with the eye exam today...took my phone longer to find 4G and load SAF than his whole exam took!

DS said doc said, that he "passed, that all all they're really looking for is the color blind test results and that his eyes are within the perameters."

I know I've read here that the docs submit their findings and DoDMERB is the one who says you "pass" or not so we will wait for their word.

Hope this helps...or maybe we're in trouble too!

I apologize for doing a piggy back on this, but it is a vision question. DS just finished his eye exam and Dr. said all went well with 20/20, color and muscle, but DS said all went well except for 3D glasses where he was supposed to pick out the dots that were extended or appearing to be coming up off the chart. He said that there were 10 squares but he could only see 3. He is concerned that he may get DQ'd. He is looking at USNA, USMMA, & USCGA. Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated. Thanks

I also had problems with the depth perception test. There were eight total for me and I think I only saw four or five of them. I remember reading on an old thread (so take this with a grain of salt because I really have nothing to back it up) that depth perception isn't really a commissioning disqualifying issue so much as it is a pilot disqualifying issue. If I get something mentioning depth perception in my results I'll let you know so your son has a better idea of what to expect.

Just found out that I'm fully qualified! Great news because with my luck, I expected a fight. Here's a timeline for anyone that might be interested:

09-JUL-13 Date applicant entered into DoDMERB system
09-JUL-13 Application Added
24-JUL-13 Actual date of exam
30-JUL-13 Date exam received at DoDMERB
30-JUL-13 Medical data entry
01-AUG-13 Date exam reviewed

Just goes to show that there's hope for all my fellow blind people out there. I can't even see the biggest letter on the eye chart without my glasses. Good luck to everyone!
