You can't take it until you're an official candidate b/c there is no way for the facilitator to submit the scores. I believe that you can become an offiical candidate as early as May 1 (might be June 1) of the year before you are a senior.

Default How many nominations do you need?

My son received a nomination from his MOC. I was reading on another thread about someone who has a Presidential nomination but was also trying to get more nominations. Isn't one nomination enough?

First off, congrats to your son!

One nomination is enough to get in, yes. From how I understand it, though, the more slates you apply for the better chance you have of being accepted. Despite having two nominations last year, one Presidential one MOC, I was still not admitted. It is for this reason that the academy suggests you apply to all nominating sources! The Academy is then able to "charge" you to a different slate if there are more competitive candidates in the Presidential pool or in your MOC's district. Hope this helps!

You said you cannot answer the questions resembling "how likely am I to get in"and similar questions even though I would love to list my qualifications and put my mind at ease. My question is if usna has a quota on how many women are required to be accepted. I know that only ~20% of the academy population is women but was wondering is it a requirement for the school to accept a certainnumber if women each year? Thanks

It's not that I can't in that I'm incapable of doing it. It's that my opinion -- or that of anyone else on this site -- is meaningless for the reasons stated in the first post. People can opine on issues they see as major weaknesses but, if you're a senior, there's not much you can do about most of them at this point. The fact you have great "stats" may make you feel better but every year there are literally thousands of candidates with great stats who don't get appointments (or even noms).

There is NO quota for women. Admissions have been gender blind for more than 15 years (more or less since the "combat" restrictions were lifted). For the Class of 2016, about 24% of the class is female; this was the largest percentage of women and largest number of women in a class to date. Lately, the percentage has fluctuated around 20-23%.

Default My chances

Hi my name is Jonathan and I would like to go to the United States Naval Academy to become an officer and hopefully eligible to report to Pensacola, Florida for flight training upon graduation. I would like to know my chances of getting into flight training if I wear glasses.

If you qualify for the surgery (most do), the Navy will fix your eyes to 20/20 uncorrected while you're at the academy.

I'm pretty sure you can take the CFA junior year at some point because you can generally start an "open" application for a Service Academy during your junior year.

CFA can be taken as soon as you receive an official candidate number from USNA. So fill out the preliminary app early (apply for Summer Seminar today -- don't wait).

Default What are my Chances

I have an unweighted gpa of 3.48 due to 1 D freshman year when I was going through some stuff. I attend a high school that to say is competitive is an understatement, to get into the top 50% you have to have a 96.8 GPA (and yes this is a public school!) does the competitiveness of my school go into account. Also I am a third year swimmer on my school's JV swim team and might be rising to Varsity next year. I am involved with my church quite a bit. I have a part time job at a pizza restaurant where I work about 20 hours a week. In my years of swimming at school I have earned the Dragon (school mascot) scholar award in which you have a 3.5 GPA or higher and for the past two years(including this year) I have earned the JV Leaders award. After Taking my ACT test for the first time I earned a 26 in math 22 in english and 24 in reading and 20 in writing. I am taking the ACT in April and June to try to up my scores and am taking the SAT in May and June as well. I have not been involved in school politics (STUCO) but I am planning to start a Military Club at my high school (as we do not have a JROTC of any kind). Will starting this club help my standing in front of the admissions board?
Also I have been denied Summer seminar for USAFA and USNA and am trying to apply for USCGA's AIM program before it ends on April 15th. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any responses y'all may have for me.
