Default Service Selection Breakdown

What is the breakdown at USNA as far as service selection goes? How many billets are alloted for the different communities? Also, what grades or ranking is generally associated with each of the communities? With Marines, how many pilot and NFO billets are available? Thanks.

Sounds like you should put on your research cap and get to work on that question yourself! Is it a report for school? The academy websites could help you out, so could a google search. Perhaps you should talk to your local ROTC people too ...

If you are searching for numbers there are lots of sources ... that you can find ... and it will help you develop your search skills ... you probably already know that each branch of the mililatry has a needs list, and it changes according to the current personnel and the missions ...

happy searching!

Agreed!

Keep in mind, it's always the "needs" of the Navy that determine these numbers. Billets fluctuate based upon that need (retention rates, mission, etc.)

For the second part of your question order of merit is not that important in determining what you select as most people get their first choice, however it defenitly helps your odds to have a higher order of merit. Very few people get lower than their second choice, partly due to different people being interested in different things so the service selections kind of sort themselves out. In addition, some billets are affected by other factors, like marines are influenced by their leatherneck performance and interviews, competition for air billets gets reduced by medical screenings and small communities like SEALs or medical often have almost nothing to do with order of merit.

This might be helpful:

Scroll down about halfway and it has a nice breakdown of the service selection results for a particular class.

In this example, the largest single group was "Navy Pilot".
