Default DoDMERB Status

I just checked the status of my DoDMERB status and it says that it is remedial. I know this just means they need more information, but is this in any way a bad thing for my application? Is it looked down upon or anything?

It is not "looked down upon." But must be resolved before you will be offered appointment.

I sent you a pm.....

Do you wear braces on your teeth?

I have identical twins currently at the Naval Academy and at the time they were going through the application process they were both wearing braces on their teeth. You cannot show up for I-Day wearing braces but it wasn't a big deal because they were scheduled to be removed in June anyway.

But, as it turned out, it was a big deal.

The DoDMERB handled the situation completely different for each boy. One got a medical DQ whereas the other got a letter instructing him that the braces had to be removed prior to reporting.

All this despite the fact that they went into their DoDMERB medical exam with a signed letter from their orthodontists clearly stating that the braces were going to be removed in mid-June.

It turned into somewhat of a nightmare for something as simple as braces. I couldn't believe it! I was thinking to myself, "This cannot possibly be that unusual. You'd think they'd never seen a candidate with braces before in their lives."

In any case, Larry Mullen got involved and straightened it out. But had he not - it was rapidly spiraling out of control.

You have to closely monitor these things. One mistake on a some electronic form by somebody who is not paying close attention can destroy your chances. It's a government bureaucracy! To them, you are just another brick in the wall in their long day of examining person after person. If they check the wrong box on some form it can set into a motion a chain of events that will take you countless phone calls and emails to undo - not to mention a lot of your time and stress.

I had to do a remedial for my past food allergies. DoDMERB requested my medical records, and a month after I sent in all my medical records concerning the issue, my DoDMERB status changed to "qualified". I then received an appointment in October. I agree with jennyp, it's just another hurdle to jump.

A "PM'is a private message that you can send to anyone on this forum that is just between you and the other person.

Just click onto the person's name whom you want to send a message to and you will see the link to send a private message.

Hope that helps...!

When you receive a PM, it shows up as a "notification" when you log on. Upper right hand part of the page.
