Is it worth it to take four years of spainish when you are lousy at it. Also should i take calculous. When is the best time to send in my nomination packet to congressman mccarty of californias 22nd district.

Hi, I recommend taking the fourth year of Spanish and calculus. I can't give you advice on the California MOC process.

Check your MOC's website for their application dates. Send as soon as you can and still send a great packet.

Would it be a minus on your application if you only take 2 years of a foreign language (minimum)?

I only took two years of spanish, but this allowed me to do Joint Enrollment which is what I was far more interested in. I am terrible at languages, at one point I was semi-fluent in hebrew but then lost it when I switched to public school.

It's not that I'm bad at languages, really...but my class schedule plans don't allow for it and it's really pretty easy and boring to me (Spanish). As for joint enrollment, I had considered doing this but was told if I did, I would have to give up being able to do sports or extracurriculars...that's a no-no.

Although the SA's only require 2 yrs, most civilian colleges now are looking for 3 yrs in one language or 2 yrs in 2 different languages. Just a thought to throw out for your plan B endeavors

Keep in mind that you are getting a Bachelor of Science degree based upon a ton of math, science, and engineering courses. It would seem logical that unless you were a Chinese or Arabic major the language aspect would be relatively minor. As I recall from oil-burner days, the interest was to make us basically aware and conversant in a foreign language. If you are going to pursue 4 years in a language then I would recommend you put the effort into the course to make it significant on your resume. Otherwise I would use the class time to take a math, science, or grammar/composition course that will help you at the SA.

Who leaked you this terrible information?! haha

Joint Enrollment IMO is one of the best kept secrets in GA. I currently do JE at Georgia Perimeter College for math, and I have learned more in those classes than my past years of math combined. HS math IMO was filled with busy work and crap. Back to the point.

My EC's include captain of debate, work at legal aid society, track, cycling and I still have time to lift. Debate is twice a week, I work at legal aid once for 3-4 hours on Mondays, track is everyday except I wasn't able to go on debate days (now that debate is just about over, I can go to track everyday). So whoe ever gave you this information is just wrong. I take four classes at my high school and then one class at GPC. I am done with my HS classes at 12. And then I have GPC classes from 1-2:15 on tuedsay and thursday. Mind you I don't take electives, or any joke classes. So if you are filling 2-3 periods with basket weaving, etc. JE won't work. But if you want to do it, it will work.

It was what I was told by our school's JE coordinator...I do take electives, however...JROTC and Spanish to be exact. Besides, wouldn't have transportation to and from college since parents work and don't drive and won't be anytime soon:frown:.
