Great question. Nope - he’s at UIUC .Is your DS at a SMC? Just wondering it these went to SMC only schools or others also
Interesting. So much for my "SMC only for the OTSSN" theory. This scholarship is a true unicorn I guessGreat question. Nope - he’s at UIUC .
I think so . I follow the NYC Unit on FB and it looks like they might have given one out too….Interesting. So much for my "SMC only for the OTSSN" theory. This scholarship is a true unicorn I guess
I hope there’s more scholarship money this year. DS’s unit still hasn’t heard anything about this OTSSN, but it doesn’t seem like every unit got these scholarships. Have to wait until this summer I guessEven though the email to my son said the CO could nominate up to 3 students, they actually awarded the scholarship to 4! I think there's just more scholarship money available this year, which I'm thankful for!
Congratulations ! So exciting! We were in your shoes in 2021. It wasn’t easy but then I think these College Programmers show up determined and can really shine! It’s builds so much character. It goes so fast. In just 8 months we find out which Service Community our DS goes into .He heard this morning he was selected for Project GO! He'll get to study the Chinese language and culture for 2 months in Taiwan this summer, courtesy of the DOD! Thankful he's being recognized for all his hard work (especially after the huge disappointment last year of being denied by both USNA and ROTC)
@Gnarlygoat27 - Our DS is also at VTCC waiting on news of the 3.5. Another Navy Lab with no announcement Good luck to your Cadet! I hope we hear something soon.well we keep waiting because no announcement yet... CO says "it's still held up" but I'm not sure where. We've perfected the hurry up and wait mentality by now
@Gnarlygoat27 word from my Cadet is the unit was notified of selectees and they (the unit) have the paperwork. The announcement was supposed to happen last Tuesday at Navy Lab, but they ran out of time. Hopefully next Tuesday! Bringing forth memories of waiting for the announement about a year ago.... If not this time, the next. My Cadet will be happy as long as he is in the commissioning ceremony in 2027!
Yes I heard the same thing from mine. They ran out of time because a SWO nuke was briefing them, which tracks with every SWO nuke I know . I kid… kinda. Anyway he just told us they were notified in their Naval Science class today and that it was entirely based on GPA. Which I find frustrating unless the CO decided that was easiest, which I guess is his discretion. He did not get one despite having a GPA above Corps average, but did say they were told several more were coming next week? Sigh… what’s $18k here or there@Gnarlygoat27 word from my Cadet is the unit was notified of selectees and they (the unit) have the paperwork. That’s wonderful, I’m so happy for your son! And you!! It is a very stressful process but we’ve waited this long, what’s another week right, haha. I will say I see so much growth and maturity in my son this year already, so it’s a win. He told us yesterday he’ll have to take a summer class because something about math credit requirements changed and even though he validated one calc class he needs to take another one and can’t fit it into his schedule, so summer it is. Within 3 hours he’d found an accepted transfer program, confirmed with his LT, reached out to the dept head to verify timing, figured out how to make it work around NSI (it starts the same day that ends), completed the application, and applied for a cadet scholarship to cover it.Good to hear more might be coming coming next week. My son got an email this morning he was selected and would "activate" his scholarship in class this afternoon. The whole process is very stressful and @Gnarlygoat27, I wish your Cadet the best of luck in the next selection process. We are rooting for him! We are going to Caldwell II next month. PM if you would like us to find your Cadet and take some photos.
I’d love to understand the inner workings of how they decided where to do these. Thank you for your support!I've got my fingers crossed for Mids at the schools doing the OTSSN. These scholarships seem to be like unicorns since only a few schools are doing them. What a great opportunity!!
Thanks. Sounds like your son is making VTCC his own and thriving. Before you know it, he will be on scholarship and everything will fall into place. Absolutely love the process and the growth that results. We hope to drop in for NSI graduation. I believe they are all going together (Phase 1)? If so, I will share photos. I am sure more will be available, too. Thank you and your husband for your service and dedication to our country. My husband is a Navy veteran and we both miss the community. We are OOS, but if you ever need anything, please reach out. That’s wonderful, I’m so happy for your son! And you!! That’s awesome you’re going to watch Caldwell II! I’m bummed we can’t take part in so many things but yes that would be lovely if you can keep an eye out for him. I’ll PM you
