Does anyone know if the monies paid to the midshipman fee account are tax deductible as education expenses?

I was hoping CPASteve would weigh in, but I don't know how much he is on SAF now that wrestling is over.

FWIW, our CPA didn't let us deduct them. I think someone in a previous post had said this is an "administrative" fee, not a tuition. Our CPA looked at the receipt and gave a quick - Nope!

My experience only. Again, FWIW.

I have not used them for my son as the fees being collected are for haircuts, tayloring, etc. One item that may be a issue now is the computer and software are deductable for year 2009. It was not in 2008 when we paid for it.

Right now is tax season and back to doing taxes.
